A podcaster is being praised for utilising her platform to broach a ‘bold’ women’s health topic with a leading gynaecologist.

Former lawyer and TEDx speaker Mel Robbins, 55, has been helming her titular podcast since 2022 and recently spoke to Dr Jen Gunter, 57, about a NSFW topic.

During a one-hour six-minute episode, titled ‘The Science of Women’s Health: Ob/Gyn Reveals 10 Truths You Need To Know’, the pair chatted about vaginal odour.

“So I saw online that if I eat pineapple that my vagina is going to smell better, is that true?” Robbins began.

In reply, the medical expert said: “No, that’s a load of garbage. I think it’s really important for people to know that any time they hear someone saying that, the underlying message is they want you to believe your vagina stinks.”

Dr Gunter went on to say that she believes you ‘can’t change’ your body odour with any kind of food, before being asked what her response would be if a patient confessed they didn’t like the smell of their private parts.

“Its a vagina,” she said plainly. “Not a Piña colada. Your vulva shouldn’t be smelling like a tropical fruit drink, right? It should smell like a body part!”

Robbins then joked that she wanted her husband Chris to be able to ‘drink’ the iconic cocktail when going down on her.

“Yeah but he should think that your normal body is like that,” retorted the Canadian gynaecologist. “You don’t need this artificial smell to make you enticing.

According to Mayo Clinic, vaginal odour is categorised as any smell coming from the vagina.

Usually, the odour will be mild or virtually non-existent. However, if a strong scent is present, it could indicate some kind of underlying problem.

However, Cleveland Clinic states that strong vaginal odours may be related to hormonal changes or even diet.

After a clip of the pineapple conversation was posted to Instagram, users have come out in their droves to debate the pair on their ‘bold’ conversation.

“Loving this interview Mel,” wrote one social media user.

A second said: “Bold conversation - I’m so here for it!!!!”

Another commented: “But I want Chris to go down and drink the Pina Colada. Oh @melrobbins this is the content I’m here for.”

Someone else typed: “I think people are missing the point. Yes your diet matters but you can eat as healthy as possible and never smell like a damn pineapple.”
