Women are only just realising they’re 'Grinch brides', which is apparently way worse than being 'Bridezilla'.

Over the years, I'm sure we've heard the term 'Bridezilla' - which refers to a bride whose behaviour in planning the details of her wedding is deemed extremely obsessive or intolerably demanding - hundreds of times by now.

However, there's now a brand-new term we apparently need to add to our dictionaries...

One woman, Elena Nicolaou, has since taken to Instagram to explain the term and opened up about her own personal experiences as a 'Grinch bride'.

She began by sharing a little context, telling viewers that when she got married she was not a 'Bridezilla'.

Coining the term, Elena revealed: "I was something there was no word for, but I felt like an absolute freak. I'm giving it a word now - a Grinch bride.

"Much like the Grinch, you are in a world surrounded by people who are really excited about something you're supposed to be excited about."

Explaining the analogy, she went on: "Okay, for the Grinch, it's Christmas, and for you, it's a wedding, and the longer it goes the more you feel like a freak because you don't see what the fuss is about and you feel isolated and alone.

"And you're like, 'Wait, what tradition do I have to do? Huh? What?!'"

Elena continued: "All around you, you see other people who are excited about their weddings and are going through it big-eyed bushy tailed like a Who.

"And the more it goes on, the more you feel like the Grinch all alone."

She went on to admit she thinks 'Grinch brides' are actually 'romantics at heart' but that they're all 'skeptics'.

"They don't know why all the traditions are necessary. They don't even know if the big wedding is necessary," Elena said. "But Grinch brides are not control freaks, so they're not gonna go out of their way to make everything their own, because they don't really care that much.

"They just want to get married."

Explaining the plot of the classic Christmas film, Elena explained: "The Grinch has a happy ending, because at the end of The Grinch, he realises why Christmas is important.

"And I think that's what happened to me the day of my wedding. I was like, 'Oh, this is the best day ever. I get it'.

"My heart melted. My heart grew like the Grinch. But if you're a Grinch bride, you got to get there to the end, because it's tough."

Elena rounded off: "The wedding industry wants you to be smiling, and you're like, 'Why?'"

And it's clear Elena isn't the only one as many other brides rushed to the comments to share their own experiences as a 'Grinch bride'.

"Damn you explained perfectly what I’m going through. Our wedding is in 1.5 weeks and we just wanted to elope. I think part of it is not feeling like I am worthy of fuss and celebration," shared one Instagram user.

Another penned: "Yes lol but I’m so happy with how it turned out!! I’m also soooo happy it’s over!!"

And a final Instagram user praised: "Thank you for making me feel seen."
