Pregnant mum reveals she got makeover hours before C-section to ‘look perfect’

She said she ended up looking 'horrific'

One mum has revealed she got a makeover hours before her C-section to 'look perfect'.

Melissa Oakes was booked in for a planned C-section seven months into her first pregnancy after being told her baby was sitting breech in the womb.

After being told the exact time and date to give birth, the 28-year-old took it upon herself to enjoy some pampering and beauty treatments including a lash and brow appointment but her plan to 'look perfect' seemingly didn't work out as she admitted she ended up looking 'horrific'.

On the day of her planned birth, Melissa spent £50 on a set of Russian lashes and another £15 getting her eyebrows waxed.

After admitting she was 'so bothered by how she looked', she also booked in for a spray tan costing £25 as well as getting a gel manicure for £25.

And that wasn't all.

Melissa also had some at-home beauty pampering including a bath, a full moisturising routine and curling her hair before the caesarian.

Her boyfriend, Matthew Shaw, also 28, and her lash tech were both left baffled by Melissa's C-section prep saying they thought she was 'crazy' for having her lash and brow appointments so close to giving birth.

In total, the Brit forked out £100 on all the beauty treatments but, despite all the effort, she's since reveals she wants to opt for a less 'extravagant' hospital look if she was to have another child.

The mum-of-one, who hails from Wigan in Greater Manchester, explained: "Throughout my whole pregnancy my little girl was breech so her head was sitting in my rib cage.

"[Due to this] at my seventh month mark, I was booked in for a planned c-section and was given a date and time my baby would be born.

"I was absolutely petrified of giving birth and pushing so I think even if she wasn't breech, I would have still opted for a planned caesarean."

She also revealed that having her beauty treatments the morning of her C-section 'helped calm [her] nerves'.

Melissa admitted: "My eye lash technician did think I was crazy having it the morning of but they needed to be perfect.

"My boyfriend also thought I was crazy but I think he is used to it at this point as I get beauty treatments every two weeks. I don't think he expected anything less.

"I really didn't like being pregnant. It took a massive toll on my body and mental health and I think he knew by me going to these beauty treatments made me feel better and this made him happy."

She added: "I was just trying to keep as relaxed as possible as I was a bit frightened.

"Looking back now, I was so bothered by how I looked, but I wish I hadn't gone through with all the treatment.

"I was rushing around before her birth trying to get to all the treatments and the end outcome wasn't about me it was about her [my daughter]."

Looking back at the snaps her boyfriend got of her during the birth, Melissa sadly said: "They are the most horrific things that cannot surface this earth and I thought even after all the work I had done, it didn't make me look any better if I'm honest."

While she is a 'firm believer' of having 'no regrets', the mum said she may not go as 'extravagant' if she ever gives birth again.

"Because in the end it doesn't matter," Melissa continued. "All that matters is that your baby is safe and healthy and I won't put as much effort next time.

Melissa's boyfriend, Matthew Shaw, said he thought she was 'crazy' for having her lash and brow appointments so close to giving birth.

"I don't regret it but I have learnt a lesson of what is important."

Melissa posted on TikTok about her pre-birth lash and brow appointments with many viewers quick to admit they had done the same as her.

The mum said: "I know loads of girls that have had all these treatments done before giving birth.

"I think one person commented on my post announcing her birth saying 'omg you have lashes on' but 99% of the other comments said I looked great."

One user said: "Priorities. Got to be looking your best for meeting your baby!"

"That's a slay!" praised a second while a third chimed in: "Got a brow lamination at 7pm and my planned section at 7am."

A final TikTok user admitted: "This would actually be me."
