A doting dad was dealt a brutal reality check this week, after realising he'd spent over four-figures on a family breakfast.
The father-of-two - who goes by the name John Tolkein on social media - shared his 'horror' story on X (formerly Twitter), revealing he'd dropped over $1,000 on his morning meal.
The Tolkein family (three adults and two children) had dined at Disney Princess Breakfast Adventure inside the park chain's California resort.

According to Disneyland's official website, the special edition experience is described as follows: "Treat your child to an unforgettable 3-course breakfast and enchanting encounters with some favorite Disney Princesses.
"Kids can let their imaginations soar during one-of-a-kind Princess-themed activities.

"Upon arrival, Disney Princesses are waiting to greet you and share in your hopes and dreams prior to taking a photo on a beautiful private patio.

"You may take part in storytime with Belle or learn some fierce warrior poses with Mulan."
By the sounds of things, however, Tolkein hadn't considered the total price of his family's breakfast banquet, and was horrified to be presented with a bill for $937.65.
Even more shocking? This figure didn't include a tip, with the blindsided dad-of-two feeling forced to add a 20% tip to the meal, piling on another $150 and bringing the total bill to a staggering $1,087.65.
"'Princess Breakfast' at Disneyland with my kids," Tolkein shared a snap of the receipt online. "Almost spit out my coffee."

The Disney site also details the child-friendly food options, listing a '3-tier towers of appetisers' as the starter, the choice of chicken and Mickey waffles or house-made mac & cheese for the main, and a 'selection of treats' for desert.

These include 'Ariel’s Dingle Hopper Vanilla Cake Pops, Pocahontas Colors of the Wind Sorbet, Princess Aurora Chocolate Cream Puffs and Tiana’s Pistachio Macarons.'
When it comes to the grown-up menu, its expected that they'll share with their youngsters when it comes to their starter and dessert platters.

For adults' mains, however, they can choose from 'perfect scrambled eggs, maple turkey sausage with caramelized pears and figs, breakfast deviled eggs, braised short ribs with balsamic cipollini onions, or truffle mac & cheese'.
Interestingly, however, Tolkein's predicament has sparked quite the debate online.
A number of his followers agreed with his horrified reaction, wondering how on earth meals for five individuals (two of whom are children) could rack up such a total.
"Please tell me you have 35 kids," one sympathetic social media user jibed.

Another wrote: "You’re a great dad for doing this…better than I’ll ever be."

Others, however, were less sympathetic to Tolkein's woes, claiming he should have known what he was getting himself in for.
"Bro they tell you the price when you book, if you're surprised that's on you," one critic pointed out.
"Why are you surprised?" another asked.
A third hit out: "Why? You should know roughly how much it would cost before you had it."
