Nurse mind-blown after mum says she is mispronouncing the name of her son Liam

She was confident that she was going to pronounce it correctly, but she got it very, very wrong

A nurse has taken to TikTok to share her disbelief after a mum told her she had accidentally mispronounced her son Liam's name.

Lindsay, who posts under the handle @lindsey_56785678, made the name revelation in response to a video that asks TikTokers 'the most unfortunate name you've ever heard'. Have a listen:

The paediatric nurse began the video by explaining that she is from the Deep South of the US and said she 'butchers everybody's name if it's not something super simple like Ben or Sally, I'm going to butcher it.'

She continued: "So I see a kid's name on our computer and I say, 'Oh Liam, I've got this. L-I-A-M. Easy.'

Lindsay said she then went out and called child's name in the waiting room, but none of the patients responded to it, so she asked for Liam again.

"Nobody moves," she said. "Call him again. Nobody moves.

"Finally, this mum stands up and says, 'Do you mean Yum?' And I said, 'No, Liam.' And she said, 'It's short for Will-iam.'

The the nurse ended the video by making a mind-blown gesture.

Needless to say, the unusual pronunciation of the common name did not go unnoticed on TikTok, and at the time of writing, the video has been viewed over 3.7 million times.

Lindsay jokingly captioned the video: "#namefail."

While the comments section has now been turned off, prior to this, people were quick to comment on the surprising name fail.

As reported by Kidspot.com, one baffled parent wrote: "My son's name was Liam. His new name is Yum."

"As a mum of a Liam, I am perturbed," added a second.

Lindsay was confident that she could pronounce the name Liam.

Meanwhile, other viewers of the video shared examples of unusual name pronunciations that they've heard in their own lives.

Another viewer revealed: "Had a student named Justin, last name Case. He said 'My mum thinks she has a sense of humour'."

A second user, who identified themselves as a medical professional too, added: "Had a patient named L-A, I called for LA. Mum quickly informed me it was pronounced Ladasha and did I not see the dash? Ummm OK."

Perhaps the most bizarre part of this story is the fact that Liam's name, just like LA's was spelled exactly the way you'd expect the name to be spelt, so we think Lindsay can get let off for getting it wrong.

Have you ever heard a seemingly common name pronounced in a bizarre way?
