Some households are very particular about how they decorate their Christmas trees - whether it's with carefully-placed, colour-co-ordinated baubles and lights, or an eye-catching mish-mash of tinsel and ornaments collected from over the years.

But one mum really turned heads online when she shared how she created her 'Lorax'-style Christmas tree.

Mum and TikToker Sam Holtwick (@samholtwick) wanted to create a Christmas Candy themed tree this year, and used a fake silver fir and a whole pile of shower loofas to make it a reality.

"Call me crazy but how have I not thought of this before?!" she wrote in the caption.

"When you want a Christmas Candy Theme tree but don't want to pay a ridiculous amount."

Sam filmed herself fluffing out some purple, pink and orange loofas before sticking them to some paper cones and slotting them into her Christmas tree.

With some help from her delighted daughter, she set up the cotton-candy tree and presented the finished product to her followers - but not everyone was as impressed as her little girl.

"No ma'am. I don't think anyone ever thought... and thank God they didn't," one horrified viewer wrote.

"This just looks absolutely shocking," complained a second, while a third added: "I can't look past the fact that there's a bunch of loofas on your tree."

Thankfully, there were plenty of viewers who adored Sam's colourful creation to counteract all the negativity.

"It's giving the trees in The Lorax, still cute," commented one follower, referring to the bright pink and orange Truffula trees in Dr Seuss's book.

"Am I the only one that actually thinks it's a cute idea? Plus it's not expensive yet her kid seems happy. No need to crush spirits", wrote a second.

And a third raved: "I actually think this is really cute."

Sam got plenty of praise on her unique Christmas tree, but as long as she and her little girl love it, that's all that matters.

At the end of the day, the way you decorate your Christmas tree is totally up to you, but what you should definitely think twice about is *where* you put it.

Gardener Monty Don has compiled a handy list of advice for anyone purchasing a tree this year.

Writing on his blog, Monty explained: "NEVER place your Christmas tree by a radiator. It will respond by immediately shedding its needles."

And no matter how much you decorate your tree, it'll be tough to hide if it goes completely bare!
