Christmas is the perfect time to indulge in all our favourite sweet treats and to celebrate the festive season, people are making their very own Eton mess and pavlova boards to treat themselves and their loved ones. Yum!

The images look absolutely delicious and you can make it yourself at home. The inspiration came from Shalini Nestor, the founder of Swish Biscuits which is based in Canberra, the Australian capital.

Shalini spoke to the Australian news website 7News about her own inspiration, explaining that she had seen a pavlova station before but she had never seen it done on a grazing board.

She said: "I came up with the idea because I've seen DIY pavlova bars and stations before, but I hadn't seen it on a grazing board where the toppings are actually on the platter/table which makes it look really inviting and abundant."

"My family absolutely loved the idea and we had so much fun choosing how to decorate our own pavs; it was a really nice interactive way to serve dessert."

For those of you wondering 'what is the different between an Eton Mess and a pavlova, they are pretty similar. Both desserts are made from soft, marshmallowy meringue, lots of cream, strawberries and other berries.

In Australia and New Zealand, the pav is a popular dish and is considered part of their national cuisine. It is mostly associated with the summertime, which makes it a suitable choice for Christmas. 'The pav' is more cake-shaped compared to the Eton mess.

While the Eton mess, which is considered a top dessert choice on Come Dine With Me, is commonly believed to originate from Eton College in England and is still served at the annual cricket match against Harrow School pupils.

Shalini said she's looking forward to seeing how people put their own pavlova boards together for Christmas next week.

"My personal favourite combination is fresh mango slices with passionfruit and a sprinkle of shredded coconut, but I also tried one that was topped with salted caramel sauce, raspberries and a sprinkle of Flake," she said.
