Gordon Ramsay has advised foodies never to order this particular special off the menu - at least without asking this one question.

There's always two types of people in restaurants.

The one that orders the same things every single time (me - usually the fish and chips, it's a safe bet), and the one that tries something different every time (risky, but the pay off could be worth it).

Well, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has been dishing out some expert advice, and it's probably worth listening to.

The 58-year-old admitted that he always swerves a popular special that appears on most menus - and it's for good reason.

In an interview with Town and Country, he revealed that customers should try to avoid ordering the soup of the day, because it might not just be that day, if you get the gist.

After spending years working behind the scenes in kitchens, he revealed: "Ask what yesterday’s soup du jour was before today’s special. It may be the case that it’s the soup du month."

Not a particularly appetising thought.

But how should you approach searching for the best item on the menu? He also had some handy advice when it came to successful restaurant dishes.

Ramsay advised turning to the waiters and waitresses in order to get a grasp of what works and what doesn't.

He explained: "It really depends on the restaurants, but servers tend to taste most of the dishes on the menu and can give you insight to what the chef has added or what locals love.

"Being on the road, I’ve gotten a lot of great recommendations from servers."

Aside from giving out his expert culinary advice, the dad-of-four also keeps himself preoccupied with endurance training and exercise.

While competing in marathons and Iron Mans, Ramsay revealed that he curates a strict menu for himself - providing optimal nutrition.

Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty is currently dating Ramsay's daughter, and despite the hard exterior, the gold medalist has praised him for his caring nature.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: "In this last year or so, seeing how he performs, the balance he has to create in his life with high performance, family life and love, his children, and his wife is incredible."

He added that the star is a 'blessing' to look up to, and a genuinely 'down to earth' guy.
