Many of us have gone our entire lives without knowing what our bodies even look like on the inside.

I'm sure, by now, we're all beyond familiar with diagrams of female pelvic anatomy probably first seen in a science book back in school.

However, people - myself included - have been left seriously confused after only just realising what it actually looks like and they’re not impressed.

A photo from author Cat Bohannon's 2023 book titled Eve: How The Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution, has started making its rounds on social media.

One diagram from the book shows a pretty enlightening diagram of a side-by-side of 'what they usually show you' versus 'what's actually true' with the very-fitting caption reading: "Female pelvic anatomy: it's a tight fit."

The first photo showed a 'flat lay' depiction of a uterus with two ovaries connected to either side of it with sprawling fallopian tubes.

However, the second anatomically-accurate photo showed a completely different image altogether.

Um, what? (Cat Bohannon)

In this diagram, the uterus was, frankly, massive and showed the much-smaller ovaries connected with much shorter fallopian tubes underneath it as opposed to the side.

After making the bombshell discovery, people rushed online to share their reactions with one social media user confessing: "I’m 30 and literally never knew this wth!"

"Wait what? I'm 43 and just learning this?!" revealed a second, while a third chimed in: "Damn. I’m pushing 40 and just learning this today!"

A fourth quipped: "Now… this actually makes sense."

"That even feels more accurate," chirped a fifth while another echoed: "It feels on point!"

And a final person added: "I’m stunned!"

That makes the two of us!

Bohannon's book has an avalanche of rave reviews with one reader confessing: "I thought that I didn’t need to read this, that there wouldn’t be anything I didn’t know already from my almost 80 years of life as a female and as someone interested in the study of evolution.

"I thought it was a textbook of sorts and wondered why my friend bought it for me. I was a little offended, thinking that he thought I didn’t known much about the female body. Was I surprised when it interested me immediately!"

A second echoed: "Lengthy and scientific, but fascinating, funny, and hard to put down. As an 88 year old, I'll admit I was angry at the end, with our patriarchal society still trying to control us and women's rights regressing even today. Wonderfully researched and written book."

And a final added: "Bingeworthy science seved with creative flair! Super thought provoking, enlightening, and empowering. Thank you, Cat!"

Well, Cat, consider your book added to my 'to-read' list!
