A dad has been praised on TikTok after sharing a video of his baby son getting his ears pierced.

In a video shared to a TikTok account set up for the little one, the tot can be seen sitting on his dad's knee as he has his ears pierced in a shopping centre salon.

While the boy does seem to be crying as the beautician pierces both of his ear lobes, the parents have been praised for deciding to pierce the baby's ears at such a young age.

The idea of piercing your child's ears as a baby is often a divisive one, with some parents believing it causes them unnecessary pain, while others - who did have theirs pierced at a young age - often say it's better because they don't have to go through it later in life.

Some people praised the dad.

After sharing the clip, the dad was met with heaps of comments from people who were in favour of having a baby's ears pierced while they're still young.

One person wrote: "I haven’t met one person mad at their parents for piercing their ears young. I’m glad mine did."

While another said: "I think it’s funny when people make it a big deal to pierce a babies ears. Mine were pierced and I’m here standing strong."

And a third added: "I’m glad I got my ears pierced at 3 months I don’t even remember it."

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "My parents had mine done at 18 months. I don’t know my opinion on it but I'm glad they did because I'm too much of a wuss to do it myself."

Another wrote: "Some ppl are so dramatic, ear piercings are can be taken out. Lobes barely hurt, it's more surprise than anything many kids sleep through it."

Others were divided over whether the parents should wait until the child can decide themselves if they want their ears pierced.

One person noted: "Why not just let the baby grow up and see if he even wanted a piercing or not?"

And another said: "Sadly some people hate their piercings from getting them as a baby and the scars don’t heal and it makes them self conscious... I hope he likes em."

And a third added: "I really feel that when parents get there babies ears pier at such a young age it’s for them."

Where do you stand on the debate?
