When you’ve got to go in for your maintenance wax, or even a wax for a special occasion, there’s something you’re going to want to know before going to the appointment with a tampon in.

Some people like to get fresh when aunt Flo comes to visit, and that’s obviously OK.

However, there have been some horror stories on the topic, particularly when it comes to tampons.

Now, if you were to wear a pad, you’d probably need to take it off and freshen up before seeing your waxer.

But for tampons, you can leave it there and assume that everything will be alright.

Sadly, that wasn’t the case for one person and now when I tell you the story, you’ll never want to wear a tampon near wax ever again.

So, this was posted to Reddit under NSFW (Not Safe For Work) where a person asked a question about what it’s like to wax people’s bikini area.

They wrote: “People who shave or wax private parts for a living - what are your horror stories?”

As expected, users came out in droves regarding their horrid experiences, which ranged anywhere from smells, STDs, liquids and clients who become…too happy for the situation.

But one probably topped it all because of the sheer fright for everyone involved.

A commenter shared that they were reiterating a story their teacher had once told them, about waxing a woman who was on her period and wearing a tampon.

While not uncommon, the wax and the tampon string fused together, making for an embarrassing moment once the wax was ripped from the area, taking everything (and I mean everything) along with it.

The person wrote: “Not my story, but our teacher in beauty school. She was waxing someone on her period (not uncommon, just wear a tampon) and she didn’t realize that the wax had stuck to her tampon string.

"When she went to pull the strip, the tampon flew out and was obviously an embarrassing mess.”

However, change was made after the incident, as the commenter shared: “Now we’re taught to put an applicator over the string or push it out of the way while laying the strip.”

If you’re scared, Depil Brazil Waxing Studio shared that you can still get yourself waxed when wearing tampons, you just need to take precautions.

It said on its website: “YES! Yes! Yes! You can absolutely get your Brazilian or bikini wax while on your period. As long as you are wearing a fresh menstrual cup or tampon with the string tucked in before your appointment.

“If you get a surprise visit from your monthly friend prior to your visit, or you find yourself without a fresh tampon to change into, please let your Wax Pro or our front desk staff know, and you will be given a new, unwrapped tampon.”

Through the rest of the thread of horror stories, another one about a being waxed during a period came up, and while it’s not anything to do with a tampon, it’s definitely a warning to those who don’t carry around an emergency sanitary product.

Remember, it can strike at any time!

The person wrote: “Laser Tech for 4 years. Lady started her period on the table mid session. Luckily the area was completely covered for sanitization and I was almost done zapping her.

"Finished up and sent her on her way. She was MORTIFIED, I felt bad for her. Not her fault, aunt Flo is a nasty cruel bitch sometimes. Lol. She gave me a generous tip tho, that was nice.”
