Bartender shows her shockingly low paycheck for 70 hours of work

People were stunned by the figure

A bartender has revealed how much she earned for 70 hours of work - and people have been left stunned by the figure.

TikToker Bronté - aka @f.aa.ded - took to the video-sharing platform where she shared a clip of her paycheck, explaining how she earned so little for over 70 hours of work.

You can watch the video below:

In the video, Bronté showed followers the different parts of her paycheck, revealing how many hours she had worked, how much she was paid and what was deducted at the end of the period.

She explained: "So this is why you should always tip your bartender, server, anyone who waits on your or provides a service for you.

"Because this is my hourly for two weeks, I worked almost 71 hours, I get paid $2.13 an hour as a bartender and a server.

"I should have made $150.81 but because I have to have social security, Medicare and income tax taken out, I was paid $9.28 for 70 hours of work.

"Of course, I got tips, but this is what I got for my hourly. This is why you tip."

People were pretty stunned at the low amount, with many shocked that the woman earned just $9.28 (£7.70).

One person wrote: "I always tip 20%. If I can’t afford 20% I don’t go to a restaurant."

While another said: "I’m so sorry to everyone in the states for this messed up system, this breaks my heart. Hope you’re all getting tipped well!"

And a third added: "Damnnnnn.. this needs to go viral so people actually know this!! Always tip your servers!!!!!"

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "Serving is a tough job, and I love good service! I'd hate to see it go away, and I'm happy to tip. Thank you!"

And a fifth said: "People saying it's not the customers problem: should we all quit our jobs? who's gonna serve you then? this is standard in america."

She explained how she made just over $9.

Some people, however, criticised the TikToker, pointing out she had made over $700 in cash tips for the same period.

In the comments, Bronté explained: "I make good money and I like my job, it’s not the same for everyone unfortunately, that’s why I made the video."

She added: "Hey when did you hear me complain about my tips personally, all I said was up your servers and bartenders."
