A mum has sparked a debate online after discussing how her babysitter fell asleep while looking after her 10-month-old son.

You can watch the video below:

Danielle, who goes by @danimariemit on TikTok, took to the video sharing platform to explain that she and her husband had hired a babysitter for the first time, to watch their 10-month-old son.

But, looking for other people's opinions, she explained that the babysitter fell asleep while looking after him.

Danielle explained that the babysitter rocked their son to sleep for 15 minutes, and then he was asleep for the rest of the night.

But later in the evening, Danielle checked the cameras – which they have around the house – and found that the babysitter was asleep on the sofa.

Danielle asked TikTok for advice.

Not sure whether she was asleep or simply listening to an audiobook, Danielle texted the babysitter to ask if she could let their dog in from outside. Watching on the camera, they noticed that she didn't move or respond to the message.

"We watched the cameras to see if she would move and she didn’t," she said.

"Internally I'm starting to freak out, she's watching our son, but she's asleep, but he's also asleep, but he's only 10 months and I don't know if she would hear him if he woke up and started crying."

Danielle explained the couple decided to head home.

"As soon as we walk in the door it takes her a second to wake up," she continued.

"I had left a sound monitor so I was thinking maybe she had the sound monitor on loud volume and she just fell asleep on the couch so she definitely would hear him. But no, the sound monitor wasn't on."

She wasn't sure if she was overreacting.

Danielle explained she didn't know what to think, and wasn't sure if she was overreacting.

And other users were split in their opinions, with one writing: "If the kid(s) are asleep, it is normal for the babysitter to fall asleep. However, the monitor should have been on and turned all the way up."

While another said: "Dad of 5 here. Unless your child has some at-risk medical condition, it’s fine for the babysitter to sleep. IMO."

However, another added: "Used to babysit a lot as a teenager. I would NEVER sleep at someone’s house while on the job. And that’s even when the kids are older."

While another wrote: "As an experienced baby sitter, unless you’re staying the night, then definitely don’t fall asleep. Especially if your only there till 9.30 [sic]."
