Autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR for short, is the tingling sensation you may feel usually from the scalp and down the back of the neck and upper spine.

Some people experience this pleasurable feeling in response to a stimulus, such as chewing noises or a gentle voice.

There are now countless ASMR videos on YouTube, however ASMR fans were caught off-guard after discovering an interview featuring author and retired farmer John Butler.

His videos often explore topics revolving around life and death, philosophy and religion and his soft-spoken voice has attracted ASMR fanatics in their droves to his videos.

In fact, people have taken over the comments section under the video, uploaded by Pure Unintentional ASMR, with compliments for John's calming voice.

“If he was in a Disney movie he would be a wise old turtle,” one YouTube commenter quipped.

“This man is the visualisation and sound of a long, warm hug,” another person chimed in.

One fantasy literature fan shared: “I would love him to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy”.

Another YouTuber user wrote: “His voice is like a hug.”

While someone else added: “I could easily listen to this man’s words for hours.”

However not everyone was able to drift off to sleep. One person joked: “I tried to sleep... Instead I ended up with a degree in philosophy.”

For the most part, people love coming back to the interview to help them feel calm and ultimately drift off to sleep.

“This man is a genius I've watched this entire video many times because he's so calming and bright,” said another viewer. “I’ve used some of his advice from this video and I've never been happier. Hope he's doing well.”

Another listener shared: “If u [sic] listen to what he’s saying it’s actually some really touching stuff about life. Good for contemplation and ultimately sleep.”

A third person wrote: “His voice literally soothes my heart and inner energy I can totally feel my nervous system release stress. Thank you.”
