Woman Reveals Secret Filter Compartment On Microwave That Needs Replacing

Cleaning the microwave has to be up there with one of the worst jobs. But did you know you could be missing a vital part?

One woman on TikTok has revealed the secret filter compartment in her microwave that also needs addressing - and our minds are blown.

In the clip, the user - known as @mamasknowbest - claims that some microwaves have a filter that needs changing.

"This is your reminder to change your microwave charcoal filter," she says.

"You're supposed to change the filter every six months. So while I wait for my new one to come, I'm going to just clean this one."

She then proceeds to clean out the filter, leaving it sparkling clean at the end.

It's important to note that not all microwaves have filters, so always double check the manual before attempting to replace or clean any component yourself.

And other TikTokers were blown away, with many pointing out they had no idea the filter existed.

One person wrote: "I'm tired of TikTok finding me more things to clean."

While another said: "Raise your hand if you didn't know your microwave had a filter."

And a third added: "Never knew there was a filter... I've used microwaves all my life."

A fourth commented: "Been using a microwave 30 years and never ever even knew there was a filter to clean."

"WHAT. I'm damn near 32 and had no idea," added a fifth.

Others however, pointed out that many counter top microwaves don't actually have a filter. However, 'over the range' microwaves - or ones that recirculate air - are thought to.

"PLEASE NOTE: Only the microwaves that are in the wall have them, countertop microwaves do not have filters," said one.

And another added: "I'm fairly certain that it's only for microwaves mounted above your stoves."

It's always best to check your microwave actually has a filter before attempting to replace it! If in doubt over whether there is one - and if it actually requires replacing or cleaning - always check the appliance's manual.
