Doctor shares the correct way women are meant to wipe down there

Now you know.

If you're a person with a vagina and you've ever wondered if you're wiping down there correctly, well wonder no more.

This is because a doctor has handily explained how to wipe your vagina, and while it might seem logical enough, it's worth noting regardless.

Is this how you are wiping?

Taking to TikTok, Dr Teresa Irwin explained that it is potentially dangerous for anyone with a vagina to wipe incorrectly as they could be spreading bacteria from their anus to the rest of their genitalia.

"How do you wipe?" she asked in the caption for the video.

The self-proclaimed 'vaginacologist' then demonstrated how someone with a vagina goes to the bathroom, and it became pretty clear that the right way to wipe is easy to remember.

"You can either wipe front to back from the front or front to back from behind," she explained.

"This is to prevent the tracking of bacteria from your anus, your butt hole, to your pee hole, therefore, preventing infection."

Failing to wipe properly could lead to infections like UTIs, which, if you've ever had one, then you'll know it is something you will want to avoid if you can.

Needless to say, this isn't the only piece of handy vaginal advice that the doctor has shared on TikTok, as she's also shared how to urinate properly.

She said that in order to keep your vagina healthy and happy, you should try and go to the bathroom in a 'cowboy' position.

This is exactly what it sounds like - open your legs slightly to the side and then lean forward, just like you'd do if you were riding a horse.

The doctor explained: "Many women are taught to pee by sitting straight up on the toilet, which causes some of the urine to stay in the bladder."

"The most popular position to prevent this issue I call the cowboy position, you simply lean forward to put your elbows above your kneecaps, making sure to keep your feet level on the ground."

As you can imagine, these videos, especially the one about wiping, went far from unnoticed on TikTok.

Reacting to the wiping video, one shocked viewer wrote alongside embarrassed emoji: "You're telling me some people don't wipe from front to back [sic]."

"My sister wipes front and back separately like two pieces of paper one for front and one for back," added a second.

While a third simply declared: "Being a girl is so much work."
