Warning: Article contains spoilers for season five of The Handmaid's Tale

The wait is almost over for fans of The Handmaid's Tale, who've been given a sneak peek into the sixth and final season of the show.

The most recent season of the series dropped in 2022, so it's fair to say fans have been waiting a long time for the sixth instalment to drop.

And what a season it was.

Although you might have forgotten some of the major details (it's been so long), season five saw June (Elisabeth Moss) facing the consequences of killing Fred Waterford at the end of season four, all the while continuing on her desperate mission to free her daughter, Hannah, from Gilead's clutches.

Meanwhile, Fred's widow, a pregnant Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), tries to increase Gilead's influence in Canada and we learn that Nick (Max Minghella) - who finally agrees to help the US government in exchange for keeping June safe - is married (again).

At the end of the season, we see June, Nichole and Luke heading to the train station to try and flee Canada to Hawaii.

After noticing officers looking for Luke (who had accidentally killed a man in June's defence), the pair realise that they'll never be able to escape as a three. Luke insists June take Nichole and go ahead without him.

Heartbreak soon turned to shock when June boarded the train only to realise she was sharing a carriage with none other than Serena and her new baby.

Sharing a post on Instagram, the official account for the Hulu show updated fans on the production of season six today (12 November).

The post read: "Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ve been up to… We are hard at work on the final season and I’m so excited to share with you guys these first look images!!!

"These are from episodes 1 and 2, directed by yours truly, and episode 3, directed by @thisisdavidl, all shot by @nicdaleydp.' - Lizzie Moss.

"Season 6 of #TheHandmaidsTale premieres Spring 2025."

The post features six different images, including one of June cradling a baby and another photo of Nick and Aunt Lydia.

Fans were quick to comment on the post with excitement, although many pointed out how long it had been since the last season.

One wrote: "So many questions !!!! Where is Nichole? Why does June have baby Noah in her arms? Nick and Luke not in prison? Where is Serena and why dressed like this? The wait is soooo hard!"

While another said: "When [you] forget what the last season was about because they take so long to make another season."

And a third added: "I don't understand the idea of waiting so many years between series."

The Handmaid's Tale season six airs in spring 2025 on Hulu.
