Viewers have been full of praise for an incredible crime drama that’s proven so ‘gripping’ that people have watched it all in one go, with many already desperate for a second season.

With streaming sites now a key part of how we consume TV, we rarely have to wait for the next fix of our latest obsession.

Nope, instead we have to practice a little self-restraint - something that, let’s face it, few of us have these days.

And that’s arguably especially so if we’re watching an engrossing thriller, with plenty twists and turns in each episode to keep us clicking that ‘Still watching?’ button.

That’s exactly what’s happened to viewers who tuned in to a new crime drama on BBC iPlayer, after the series was recently added to the streamer following original success in New Zealand and Ireland last year.

Starring the likes of Richard Flood, Rachel Morgan, Michelle Fairley and Simon Mead, The Gone follows the mystery of an Irish couple who go missing in New Zealand.

An Irish detective teams up with authorities in New Zealand to try and solve the case, finding that ‘no one is gone without a trace’ in this small town with a ‘dark history’.

"Has trouble found them, or did they go looking for it?” a synopsis asks.

Since landing on BBC Four and iPlayer, many viewers have rattled their way through all six episodes - only to find themselves DESPERATE for more.

“The Gone on BBC iPlayer is well worth a watch...” one person tweeted.

Someone else said: “I binged this on @BBCiPlayer WHAT A CLIFFHANGER on the last ep!!!!! I’d def stick with it if I were you! #TheGone.”

A third wrote: “Just binged #TheGone on @BBCiPlayer great Irish/New Zealand cast, gripping story, but, OMG swear at the TV ending!!”

Others said it was ‘well worth a watch’ and ‘highly recommended’, while one added that the ‘excellent series’ boasted strong characters and great ‘twists’.

Indeed, many are already calling for a second season, having been devastated to come to the end.

Many people have binged the whole series in one.

One commented: “Oh mannnn, that ending!?! The Gone is an excellent new crime drama with such a relatable cast, definitely one to watch on BBC4.”

Another agreed: “Just finished watching #TheGone loved it. Set up great for a second season.”

Someone else said: “Wow, bloody loved it, never guessed in a million yrs, really good, can't wait for season 2 BRAVO.”

While a second series hasn’t been officially greenlit, let’s keep our fingers crossed that execs have heard the pleas...

Watch The Gone on BBC iPlayer now.
