Shrek has been a family favourite flick for decades, but fans may have missed a cheeky detail in one particular scene.

The 2001 animated adventure film which focuses on the angry, titular ogre and his donkey best friend was a box office hit, grossing over $488,000,000 at the box office.

It also garnered rave reviews for its script, humour and its impressive voice cast including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow

Shrek also recently made a grand return to Netflix on 1 February and quickly reached the top of the film chart at the number three spot, Collider reports.

For those who haven’t seen the film (have you been living under a rock?) Shrek and his pal Donkey are tasked with escorting Princess Fiona to Lord Farquaad, a narcissistic lord who is quite frankly a wretched scoundrel.

Because Shrek was, in a sense, made to be a 'deconstruction' of fairy tales, according to co-director Andrew Adamson, there's a few moments in the film that you wouldn't expect to see in a kids film. And one scene has convinced fans that an adult joke for the parents.

Lord Farquaad is seen watching reels of Princess Fiona on the Magic Mirror who serves as a matchmaker (think Paddy McGuinness on Take Me Out.)

He shows Lord Farquaad a picture of Princess Fiona as he lies in bed and watches with a cocktail, but as he glances down and hastily covers something with the cover with an embarrassed look on his face.

The scene has been debated on social media in recent years, with many taking to ask if anyone else had noticed the NSFW detail.

Over on Reddit, one person wrote: “He even looks down at it and then looks at the camera sheepishly afterwards. Wow," while another replied: “I always thought it was because he was embarrassed to be shirtless in front of Fiona before they were they were supposed to be married, even if it was just her picture. Ah kid logic.”

A third Shrek fan commented: “Lmao the mirror dude looking all disappointed is even more hilarious now.”

And someone else wrote: “Just when I thought Shrek couldn't get any better.”

The last Shrek film, Shrek Forever After, came out in 2010, leaving many fans to believe it would be last time we'd be in Far Far Away - that is until Shrek 5 was announced, complete with the original cast, too.

According to Murphy, voice recording for the next Shrek film in the franchise kicked off in 2024. Speaking to Collider, the Doctor Dolittle star said: "We started doing Shrek 4 or [Shrek] 5 months ago."

He went on to reveal: "I did this, I recorded the first act, and we'll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out, and Donkey's gonna have his own movie."
