Just minutes into this year's Academy Awards, and presenter Conan O'Brien began mocking Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos.

"Speaking of Amazon, we have some footage of Amazon chief Jeff Bezos arriving tonight on the red carpet," the lead host jibed whilst kicking off the show's festivities, before cutting to a video tape filmed ahead of the show.

In the clip, whilst several huge-name stars can be seen chatting to press, a man dressed in delivery gear then appears - complete with cap and all - before launching a hefty parcel to the ground.

O'Brien didn't have to say so, but it became clear to viewers at home that the skit was poking fun at the multimillionaire and the notoriously ill-handled delivery of many of his products.

And as we say, the moment has left viewers hugely divided.

"THAT IS NOT WHERE I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING WITH THAT JEFF BEZOS BIT," one jibed.

Another added: "Jeff Bezos arriving in the Amazon box lol"

"Look for Jeff Bezos on ebay Next week," a third continued.

"THE JEFF BEZOS JOKE????" a fourth went on.

The controversial joke came just minutes after O'Brien kicked off the festivities by appearing in a VT crawling out of the dishevelled body of Demi Moore - a scene made famous in Oscar-nominated horror The Substance.

Despite the gory moment, some viewers were impressed by the presenter's attempt at humour.

"What a perfect start from Conan lol," a third fan added.

"Conan O’Brien coming out of Demi’s back in The Substance is god tier," another wrote.

The skit didn't go down too well with all viewers watching from home, however.

"The oscars did not need to introduce Conan that way," one penned.

Another continued: "Conan coming out the back of Demi wtf lmao".

A third critic hit out with a lengthy response: "Fingers crossed Conan is able to salvage this horrible opening to the Oscars.

"I hope you can wake the audience up before we all shut this off and just go to sleep."

"Conan O'Brien walking out of Demi Moore's body is a stroke of old-school genius. I love everything," one gushed on social media.

Another continued: "Conan already killing it. #Oscars."

The scene was played directly after a joint performance from Wicked actors Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eviro.

Glinda actress Grande began by belting out 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' from The Wizard of Oz, before Elphaba front-woman Erivo took over with a jaw-dropping rendition of 'Home', from the 'Oz'-inspired musical The Wiz.

The huge-name pair then went on to perform 'Defying Gravity' - the magical musical's most famous anthem.
