Netflix subscribers are claiming ‘things don’t add up’ after watching the platform’s latest true crime documentary, focusing on the murder of an NFL player.

Since 2021, Netflix has been distributing a series of docufilms covering pivotal and lesser-known stories in the sports industry.

Previous iterations include an insight into Caitlyn Jenner’s life and her Olympic career, The Rise and Fall of AND1 and now the grisly murder of former NFL quarterback Steve ‘Air’ McNair.

You can watch the harrowing trailer for Untold: The Murder of Air McNair below:

The 58-minute film documents the rise of sportsman McNair, who played college football for Alcorn State between 1991 and 1994 before entering the NFL draft in 1995.

After being selected third overall by the Houston Oilers (later named the Tennessee Titans), he remained the team’s starting quarterback until 2005.

McNair was eventually traded to the Baltimore Ravens, whom he played for two seasons before hanging up his boots in 2007.

Two years after he retired from American Football, the father-of-four was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds, aged 36.

His remains were found alongside the body of a 20-year-old woman called Sahel ‘Jenni’ Kazemi.

A police probe into McNair’s death in 2009 found that Kazemi—who had been having an affair with the retired athlete—killed the star in a murder-suicide.

It’s understood that the woman had purchased the gun over fears McNair had been cheating on her with another woman.

Police claim she proceeded to shoot him and herself in a condominium in downtown Nashville.

The Untold: The Murder of Air McNair documentary works to break down the events leading to the football player’s death while questioning the official outcome of the investigation.

While the documentary does shed some light on the morbid investigation, many red flags remain unanswered.

Many disgruntled fans have taken to social media to have their say, with one writing: “Just watched the Untold: The Murder of Air McNair on Netflix and it’s so sad that after accomplishing all of that, his life ended so tragically. I’m kinda confused on who really did it though. Does seem like some lazy investigative work.”

“Untold: The Murder of Air McNair. Things kind of don’t add up as to who killed him,” echoed a second. “Wild watch.”

A third user typed: “Severely disappointed in the doc. If you don't have cooperation from the spouse, children, etc., you have nothing. Seems like a cliffhanger to introduce another theory 4 minutes before the end.”

Another viewer commented: “Great subject but man it was such a poorly made doc, Netflix continues to fumble these great stories.”

However, many other Netflix subscribers praised the documentary, with one writing: “This Murder of Air McNair doc is WILD."

“Steve McNair's legacy remains powerful, and the questions surrounding his death still haunt many,” penned another. “Untold: The Murder of Air McNair is a must-watch for those seeking answers.”
