Netflix subscribers have been ‘waiting a year’ for a tear-jerking new drama movie some fans are calling a ‘priority’ watch - and it’s coming to streaming this month.

Last September, a drama flick starring Russian Doll’s Natasha Lyonne, powerhouse Carrie Coon and Marvel actress Elizabeth Olsen had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Shot on 35mm film, the movie largely takes place in an East Village apartment and documents three estranged sisters reacquainting to care for their ailing father.

A year on from its TIFF debut, the Azazel Jacobs-directed offering has been endowed with a strong 98 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatometer and is finally heading to Netflix later this month.

Warning: Video contains strong language

Family dynamics run rich in His Three Daughters, with Lyonne portraying a sports-betting stoner called Rachel while Coon takes on the role of her controlling, up-tight step-sister, Katie.

Meanwhile, Olsen plays Christina who is forced to navigate three excruciating days with her siblings as the trio countdown to the end of their family patriarch’s life (Jay O. Sanders).

Ahead of the Netflix premiere on 20 September, fans who have already tuned into His Three Daughters are having their say on social media.

Fans are saying the movie is an essential watch, but you should be warned that it will 'make you weep and cause weeks of introspection'.

YouTubers No Pun(dit) Intended recently took to X to claim the project should be considered in the Oscars’ Original Screenplay category.

“Have to make room for HIS THREE DAUGHTERS in Original Screenplay,” they claimed. “What a script. I know REBEL RIDGE is all the craze right now, but this should be your Sept. Netflix priority. Carrie Coon…f***ing amazing.”

“HIS THREE DAUGHTERS is a deeply moving, human portrait that does justice to the exceptional talent of its award-worthy cast - Coon, Olsen, Lyonne all brilliant,” wrote another film critic. “A bittersweet, reflective, incredibly relatable journey about family, loss & healing. Bring tissues.”

A third user typed: “Elizabeth Olsen is so beautiful, expressive, and lively. Watching her in any role is incredible.”

“Literally excited for His Three Daughters to drop on Netflix like been waiting for it for a year,” remarked someone else.

Another fan penned: “Knew they were going to be amazing because I love all of them separately but not even that could prepare me for the masterclass they gave in His Three Daughters.

“I'm going to need them to work together again like yesterday.”

If you’re a resident of the US, then you have the chance to catch His Three Daughters in cinemas ahead of its streaming debut.

But if not, you’ve been warned to make this your priority when it officially drops on September 20.
