A horror movie has left people so shaken and disturbed that they're struggling to sleep.

It's not often that a film comes around that leaves such a lasting impression but a 2022 movie, that's now on Netflix, has left viewers so shaken as they brand it 'the creepiest horror film in years'.

Smile, which hit cinemas in 2022, focuses on psychiatrist Dr Rose Cotter as she helps her patients until she meets the puzzling case of one of her patients called Laura.

The film synopsis explains: "After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can't explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality."

Taking to social media, viewers have shared why Smile has been keeping them up at night.

Writing on Twitter, one person shared: "It’s rare for a horror movie to really spook me, but Smile really f***** me up. last night at 4 am I was just awake in my bed panicking, “feeling” the presence of that ENTITY smiling at me from the corner. F***."

Another added: "'Smile' is probably the creepiest horror film I've seen in years."

"SMILE is a fantastic horror film with the creepiest opening gambit in a long long time. Must watch," said a third.

A fourth posted: "Smile is probably one of the creepiest movies I’ve ever seen."

Another posted a more in depth review as they wrote: "Just watched #SmileMovie. It was unexpectedly super creepy. The often sharp, dragging violin sounds added to the atmosphere. And that heavy feeling of impending doom throughout the film. The smiles didn’t help either. I was scared.

"It had moments that Reminded me of the Macabre children’s stories you’d read somewhere in the Brothers Grimm books.

"Personally, I think the film is a metaphor to how grief and trauma can manifest itself in our minds. Only we experience the instabilities while the world looks at you like you’re crazy."

One viewer never wanted to see anyone smile again after watching the film as they wrote: "Smile is by far the creepiest film of the year. I’m probably never gonna watch it ever again and I don’t want anyone smiling at me ever again."

Those who love horror and being scared will be made up to know that a sequel to Smile called Smile 2 is in the works too, with a release date of October this year.

That's something to smile about. Right?
