People are only just realising Matthew Perry’s dad actually starred in Friends

We can't believe we missed this, especially considering they look so alike

We'll never stop being shocked at this Friends fact.

Did you know that Matthew Perry's dad once appeared in the US sitcom?

You're probably trying to work out which character he played - and once you realise, it'll make so much sense.

The sitcom - which starred Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc - first hit our screens back in 1994, running for a decade before it ended in 2004.

While the mega fans among us are adamant that we've seen every single episode multiple times, we have to admit there are still some tiny details that shock us.

For example, did you know that Friends actually created the popular dating term, 'friend zone'.

In 'The One With The Blackout', Ross can be seen chatting to Rachel in Monica's apartment.

Rachel leaves the conversation, before Ross goes to get up from sitting on the floor. As he begins to walk away, Joey says: “Never gonna happen... You and Rachel... You waited too long to make your move, and now you’re in the friend zone.”

Ross - who was pining after Rachel pretty hard at this point - disagreed with Joey, explaining: "I'm not in the zone."

"Ross, you're mayor of the zone," Joey responds.

But one fact we didn't realise is that the late Matthew Perry had his own dad turn up during one episode of the sitcom.

Yep, actor John Bennett Perry appears in the season four episode titled 'The One With Rachel's New Dress', which sees Rachel try and seduce new fling Joshua (played by Tate Donovan) - but things, naturally, go awry.

When buying new lingerie to impress Joshua, Rachel is left mortified when he decides to take Rachel to meet his parents over dinner - mistaking it for a mini-dress.

And who plays Joshua's dad in the cringe-inducing scene? None other than Matthew's dad.

We're not sure how we missed it to be honest, especially as Matthew is the spit of his father.

John Bennett Perry, who is now 80, has had a long and illustrious career on both the big and the small screen.

Some of his better-known roles include playing Arthur Stanhope in 1997's George of the Jungle, as well as Principal Alan Moorehead in Veronica Mars and Hal Matherson in Dirty Sexy Money.

Matthew Perry sadly passed away last October. His death was ruled as an accident from the 'acute effects of ketamine'.
