Kate Winslet revealed the wholesome reason why she keeps her Oscar in her bathroom.

The acclaimed actress became a household name for her roles in a number of motion pictures. From the heart-wrenching romantic disaster film Titanic, to the science-fiction melodrama Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, she has kept viewers entertained for decades.

Winslet was honoured with the Best Actress Academy Award in 2009 for her role as Hanna Schmitz in The Reader. The 2008 drama tells the story of a complicated relationship between a young man and a woman who was a Nazi guard during WWII.

The Oscars are the biggest night in film, filled with glitz and glamour and, of course, sincere speeches from the actors and actresses honoured with awards.

So, why does Winslet keep her Oscar in the bathroom? There’s a very adorable reason as to why her gold statuette has pride of place alongside her loo and sink.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in November 2015, Winslet reflected on the moment, saying: “I’m still thrilled even now...

“It’s the most extraordinary moment.”

After receiving nominations in the past without winning, she said she became ‘really good at losing’.

“When I did win, it was a really fantastic moment,” the star admitted.

Then, Norton quizzed her on why she’s so ‘generous’ with her statue, which she then remarked was heavier than you might think.

Winslet explained: “Everyone wants to have a hold, and stand up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my primary school teachers and my mum and dad’, so the best place actually for Oscar is the loo, because when everyone goes in for a wee or a poo, they can really take their time in front of the mirror with Oscar and you can always tell because they flush and then there’s another five minutes - you’re playing with Oscar.”

The Revolutionary Road star said she then asks her guests: “How was Oscar?” to which they reply by commenting on its weight.

Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the hilarious story.

“Kate Winslet is just perfect,” said one commenter.

Another admirer added: “She is the real deal.”

While a third quipped: “I hope those people touching Kate’s Oscar always wash their hands first, after they’ve used the toilet.”

And someone else wrote: “I can’t express with words how much I love this woman.”
