Fans of long-running medical drama Grey's Anatomy have threatened to 'stop watching' the show after the latest trailer shows that we might be saying goodbye to a prominent character.

The hit medical procedural TV show is set to enter its 22nd season after a 10-year run, and there have been some announcements that have excited fans, such as the possibility of a beloved character returning after a decade.

However, with every positive, there can be a few negatives, and the latest trailer for Grey's Anatomy season 22 has a lot of fans concerned that a big character might not survive the show - so much so that some have even threatened not to tune in at all.

Prepare yourself for another round of Snow Patrol’s 'Chasing Cars' as we watch another character slowly die. You can watch the trailer here:

In case you haven't caught up with Grey's Anatomy, season 21 ended with a hostage situation that led to a massive explosion, so naturally, people began wondering who it could be.

One person wrote: "We don’t know who’s dying but for sure we know it’s not Owen," while another had a slightly different idea, threatening: "If Miranda dies I will never watch Grey's again."

However, there was another character who sparked speculation among a few people, with one writing: "If Link dies, I refuse to watch the rest of the season."

Another also thought it might be Link, but threatened to take things even further, saying: "If Link dies, I will not be watching anymore."

It could be worse to fair - it could be like Game of Thrones, a show infamously not afraid of literally massacring half of everyone's favourite characters.

The trailer does show snippets of dialogue that could suggest that Link is at risk, as it's revealed that he's 'not answering his phone'.

And showrunner Meg Marinis hasn't helped fans' theories either, as she told Parade: "There are other doctors on that floor. We saw that Bailey, Monica, and Jules are by the board. But with Link, we're Grey's Anatomy, and we always like to twist our happiness.

"We just told this beautiful wedding story in Episode 17. Link and Jo are married. They have this blissful, oblivious, beautiful storyline in the supply closet. They find out they're having girls. Then, of course, you can't just be this happy."

As if that wasn't hitting the nail on the head hard enough, the message flashed up on screen through the trailer with the question everyone is asking: "Who will survive?"

Well, for fans of the show, only time will tell until season 22 releases on 9 October.
