Alexa Demie has spoken out about feeling uncomfortable filming Euphoria nude scenes in a rare new interview.

Demie, 35, plays Maddy Perez in the Sam Levinson-directed TV series, which has just seen the final episode hit our screens yesterday (31 May).

The season has since been confirmed to be the last, meaning Euphoria fans will have to say goodbye to the oh-so-cool queen bee of the fictional East Highland High.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published Sunday, Demie opened up a little more about what it was like on-set while filming the series.

The first season of the hit HBO drama, which hit our screens back in 2019, saw Demie's character have a lot of nudity and sex scenes - something starkly different to her character's portrayal in the later second and third instalments.

"I thought that if I said no to doing them, then I wouldn’t have the part," she shared. "Not because anyone ever said that to me, but because I was so young and I didn’t know."

It was after filming a montage of Maddy cheating on Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, that she realised she wasn't comfortable.

"I’m not saying I don’t love sex, and I think it can be portrayed beautifully, and I know the show is portraying the life of teenage girls. But once I did it, I realised, 'OK, I don’t love how this feels'," the actress explained.

"So I said something, and everyone was empathetic, and I never did that again."

Despite having some low points while filming the series, Demie explained that she personally never blamed Levinson or production.

Reflecting on the second season, the Mid90s star said that she hadn’t figured out how to separate herself from Maddy and that she should have asked for support.

Levinson has also opened up about the casting of Demie.

"HBO didn’t think she was right for the part, because they had imagined a blond cheerleader," he said. "I remember pulling her aside and giving her some tips. I think she was wearing something red, and I knew that the execs would immediately think, ‘Oh, she’s too Latin.’ So I told her, ‘Don’t wear anything red,’ to soften up what I knew would be their initial perception."

He continued: "There have been a couple of moments in my career where I know an actor is right for something, and I think to myself, 'If we can’t get on the same page about this, then we’re not making the same show, and maybe I’m not interested in making whatever it is you’re making.'"
