The first episode of the brand-new season of Euphoria hit our screens yesterday (13 April), and it's clear that fans of the American drama aren't shy in sharing their opinions on it.
The chaos-filled series, which stars Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, premiered in 2019 with the third season rolling out with weekly episodes every Monday.
The eighth and final episode is scheduled for release later this summer (1 June).
Now, the second episode of Euphoria season three is yet to air, but one 'vulgar' teaser clip of Sweeney's character, Cassie Howard, has left many viewers beyond outraged.
The third season picks up after a five-year jump with Cassie and her fiancé, Nate Jacobs (AKA her former best friend's toxic ex), played by Wuthering Heights star Elordi, preparing for their wedding.
In order to make some extra cash for their big day, Cassie tries out creating adult content on OnlyFans, but it's clear TV fans reckon the 'baby scene' took things way too far.
The scene in question shows Cassie filming X-rated content, sitting on a sofa with her legs spread apart, with her hair in two pigtail bunches, wearing a sheer top and sucking on a dummy.
Critics rushed to social media to call out the show for 'sexualising children' and 'crossing a line', but many others have also shared their qualms with Cassie's character arc, especially when compared to what she was like in season one.
One X user fumed: "Please don't get me started on season 1 Cassie, like Sam Levison will pay for ruining a complex character like her."
Euphoria's 'baby scene' starring Sydney Sweeney has sparked mass outrage online (HBO) "Season 1 Cassie was messy & craved validation, but this puppy OnlyFans fetish arc while with Nate? Nah, feels like lazy shock value over real depth," declared a second.
A third chimed in: "Season 1 Cassie would NEVER do this."
"So sad that she became a bad person in S3," lamented a fourth.
Others, however, disagreed with a fifth writing: "I don't think she would've done it, but Cassie has always been portrayed as easy to manipulate/control. So it's not completely surprising that she would end up getting exploited this way."
Fans pointed issue with Cassie's character in season one compared to the latest season (HBO) Another penned: "She would actually, that’s the whole point of her damn arc, her story is the most realistic."
And a final X user added: "Cassie sexualized herself for male validation since day 1. But that story didn't need to be portrayed with a pedophilia fetish. Enough already."
Tyla has previously reached out to HBO and Sam Levinson's representatives for comment.
