Real reason Coleen Rooney will be forced to wear red socks on I’m A Celeb as 2024 lineup is revealed

It's just a couple of weeks now until the new season of I'm a Celeb kicks off on 17 November

After what feels like an eternity of waiting - it's clear we're all beyond buzzing to know that our next I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! fix is just a matter of weeks away.

Now, ITV viewers went wild after this year's line-up was finally released - featuring stars like N-Dubz's Tulisa and Love Island's Maura Higgins - but it's safe to say that the celeb many of us are most eager to see take on the jungle Down Under is none other than Coleen Rooney, especially after the whole Wagatha Christie scandal.

And we're all very excited to see the 38-year-old TV personality take on the grizzly Bushtucker Trials, adjust to diet of rice and beans and don the infamous red sock/khaki shorts combo.

However, there's a pretty grim reason why Coleen - and the other I'm A Celeb contestants - have to don the eye-catching hosiery.

Interestingly, the choice of colour doesn't actually have anything to do with the general aesthetic of the show, as the reason behind the bold sartorial choice is actually quite gross.

According to a show insider, the red socks are not for uniform purposes, but actually due to all the critters in the Aussie jungle.

Speaking to Woman's Own some years back, former camp medic Bob McCarron – who was on the show for many years – revealed the socks were actually used to cover up blood splatters to the cameras from the varied blood sucking critics living in the jungle.

What a lovely visual!

Essentially, producers don't want celebs to look battered and bruised while in the jungle, so the red socks make sense.

Getting Coleen secured for this year's season was definitely a major win for the network with a TV insider reportedly telling The Sun: "ITV bosses hope Coleen will spill the beans on life with hubby Wayne and her epic fallout with Rebekah Vardy, who starred in the show back in 2017.

A source added: "I’m A Celeb bosses have pulled off a huge coup."

Other than Coleen, we can look forward to a bunch of other stars who will be battling it out all in the hopes of being crowned this year's 'King' or 'Queen of the Jungle'.

Joining Coleen will be McFly star Danny Jones, Strictly Come Dancing legend Oti Mabuse, Loose Women star Jane Moore, Radio 1's Dean McCullough, N-Dubz singer Tulisa and boxing promoter Barry McGuigan.

The likes of Radio DJ Melvin Odoom, Coronation Street star Alan Halsall, Love Island icon Maura Higgins, BBC radio host Rev Richard Coles and internet sensation GK Barry will also be joining the mix.
