Netflix viewers reckon time is totally 'f*cking with them' after realising just how long it’s been since The Queen’s Gambit was first released.

The seven-part mini-series soon became everyone's latest obsession when it first hit our screens and, with a near-perfect 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, it's no surprise.

Boasting a star-studded cast including the likes of Mad Max actress Anya Taylor-Joy, Harry Potter veteran Harry Melling, and Love Actually's Thomas Brodie-Sangster,The Queen's Gambit is arguably one of Netflix's most popular releases.

The drama, which only has one season, first hit our screens in quite a tumultuous time for the world.

It premiered on the streamer, in somewhat of a perfect timing, in a period when many people were forced to work and study from home, unable to leave their houses, with not much more than just TV and Zoom calls to occupy their day.

Yep, The Queen's Gambit is a full four years old now after first being released back in October 2020 - AKA, the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to Reddit yesterday (24 October), a fan of the series announced: "The Queen's Gambit debuted 4 yrs ago today on Netflix."

Clearly shocked by just how long it's been, one Reddit user exclaimed: "God, it’s been four years already? What the f*ck…"

A second revealed: "For me Queen's Gambit was peak Covid and it’s insane how time has flown since then.

"I remember being in lockdown with my family and we religiously watched all the episodes (which I know are not that many but in my mind it took us ages haha)."

Talking of 'peak Covid', a third chimed in with two other series which we were all seemingly obsessed with at the time: "Tiger King and Squid Game was peak Covid."

The former, a documentary exploring the bizarre underworld of big cat breeding populated by eccentric characters like zoo operator Joseph Maldonado-Passage, came out in March that same year.

Squid Game, the dystopian Korean thriller, came out the following year in September 2021.

"Feels like yesterday," reflected a fourth fan of The Queen's Gambit, while another confessed: "It's kinda f*cking with me a little bit. Covid and still being in healthcare has ruined my perception of time."

And a final Reddit user echoed: "It was Covid man, it totally messed up our sense of time for a few years I reckon."

The Queen's Gambit is currently available to stream on Netflix.
