Horror movie fanatics are all saying the same thing after discovering a ‘clever’ prequel of an iconic film produced by Leonardo DiCaprio exists.

This week, Netflix subscribers learned they could finally tuck into a 2022 psychological thriller starring Isabelle Fuhrman, Shōgun’s Hiro Kanagawa and Matthew Finlan.

The project, directed by William Brent Bell, serves as a prequel to the 2009 film Orphan and takes place two years before the events of its parent movie.

Of course, we’re talking about the eerie Orphan: First Kill.

In the movie, 27-year-old Isabelle reprises her role as Leena Klammer, a 31-year-old woman with a hormonal disorder called hypopituitarism.

The rare condition gives Leena the appearance of a 10-year-old girl and the flick chronicles how the woman escapes from an institute and assumes the identity of a missing girl called Esther Albright.

After being welcomed into the home of Esther’s family, Leena quickly becomes infatuated with the missing child’s father Allen (played by Rossif Sutherland).

During the film, she makes multiple attempts to dispatch his wife Tricia (Julia Stiles), who knows Leena is not who she says she is.

Eventually, the horror protagonist forces Allen to choose between saving her or his wife before accidentally killing him in the process.

After leaving her adopted home in ashes, Esther makes her way to an orphanage where she waits for a new family to adopt her.

Orphan: First Kill serves as a direct prequel to Orphan.

During its cinematic run, the terrifying film grossed $44 million at the worldwide box office and was later available to stream on Paramount+.

It’s currently tagged with a neat 71 percent critic score on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

And Netflix viewers have now been able to dive into the horrifying world and many have already taken to social media to have their say.

“Orphan: First Kill was a magic miracle,” typed one fan. “Nobody knew it was coming, nobody knew how they were gonna do it, and it ended up being better than the original (imo).”

A second user echoed: “Orphan First Kill was a lot of fun to watch - Given the twist from the first film, it felt absolutely unnecessary to make a prequel to the film, but the writers did something quite clever imo.”

Someone else confessed: “Orphan: First Kill. Like wtf? I couldn’t see that one from a mile away. And I’m great at seeing the plot twists.”

A fourth viewer typed: “Oh snap, The Orphan 2 First Kill!! What a ride and I didn’t see that coming! That was so damn fun!”

Another remarked: “Orphan First Kill needs to be talked about more. Such a crazy fun movie! So Good!”

Orphan: First Kill is available to stream on Netflix now.
