Netflix's true crime series Monster will soon be back on our screens for a second season, and the killers at the centre of the story have been revealed.

The first season of the chilling series focused on notorious US serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters) who murdered 17 boys and young men between 1978 and 1991.

Created by American Horror Story visionary Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the first 10 episodes were released in 2022 and saw how Dahmer got away with his awful crimes and evaded capture.

The true crime series is one of the streaming platform's most-watched shows and amassed one billion viewing hours in its first 60 days.

But while Monster was a success with viewers, it was also criticised by families of the murderer's victims.

In an essay for Insider, the sister of Dahmer's victim Errol Lindsey, Rita Isbell, wrote she only watched the episode that focused on her brother and featured DaShawn Barnes as Isbell.

She said she didn't need to watch the rest as she 'lived it'.

Two years later, the Netflix series is back and it has been confirmed it will focus on one of the most polarising crimes of the 1990s - the Menéndez brothers.

In 1989, Lyle and his brother Erik Menéndez murdered their parents José and Mary Louise 'Kitty' Menéndez.

The pair cited years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse as their motives for shooting them.

However, prosecutors argued they'd done it to get their hands on their parents' large fortune.

They are now serving life sentences without parole after being convicted in 1996.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch are set to take on the roles of the brothers, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play their parents for the upcoming episodes.

Others joining the cast include Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman and Dallas Roberts.

The next series is set to premiere later on this year after it was reported that filming began in January.

Fans have taken to social media to share their excitement at the prospect of losing themselves in yet another twisted tale.

One person wrote: "This is actually quite good I’ll be seated."

Another said: "This is going to be great."

While a third penned: "This is gonna be interesting."

And a fourth said: "Admit it or not Dahmer was the best tv show Netflix ever made and will probably be for a long time. Can't wait for season 2."
