Baby Reindeer viewers shocked after realising what the numbers behind the email addresses really mean

Baby Reindeer viewers shocked after realising what the numbers behind the email addresses really mean

The Netflix series is still surprising viewers

It feels like everyone and their mother has been watching Baby Reindeer lately, doesn't it?

People have been transfixed by the hit Netflix series, which is based on the true life story of creator, Richard Gadd.

The series follows Donny Dunn, based on Gadd, and his years-long experience with a stalker.

Gadd was stalked for six years by a woman, named Martha in the series, before police intervened.

Over those six years, Gadd received 41,071 emails, 350 hours of voicemail, 744 tweets, 46 Facebook messages and 106 pages of letters from the stalker.

Given the lengths this woman was going to stalk him, it's no wonder that Netflix viewers have been left fascinated.

With this amount of eyeballs on the show, minor details are being picked up by the more eagle eyed of viewers.

Taking to social media, The Independent's chief culture reporter Jacob Stolworthy pointed out that the 'random series of numbers like spam' in the stalker's email address were a reference to another TV show.

He pointed out that the sequence '4815162342' that appears in Martha's email address is actually 'the cursed numbers from Lost'.

For those not in the know, here's a quick explainer of what the cursed numbers are.

In Lost, they represent a formula which predicts the end of the world.

Or so I gather.

I'm bad with watching series at the best of times, so there's virtually no chance of me dedicating myself to that show.

Anyhow, this extra detail adds another layer of creepy onto the show's proceedings.

You know, as if an extremely keen stalker wasn't enough to set you on edge.

And why is the show called Baby Reindeer?

Well, the name was derived from the stalker's own childhood.

She explained: "I had this wee cuddly toy when I was young. Went with me everywhere. Earliest memory I have, I think, was Christmas time.

"This old photo of me, sitting with this paper hat on my head and this baby reindeer beside me. Anyway, this reindeer was this cuddly, fluffy thing. It had big lips, huge eyes, and the cutest wee bum.

"Well, you are the spit of that reindeer. The same nose, same eyes, same cute wee bum. It means so much to me. You… You mean so much to me."

Chilling.

I'll certainly never think of Rudolf the red nosed reindeer in the same light again.

Baby Reindeer is now available for streaming on Netflix.
