The hype for Adolescence clearly isn't going away anytime soon with the new drama series, which just dropped a little over a week back (13 March), still clinging to the top of Netflix's 'Top 10 TV Programmes in the UK Today' ranker.

Now, the seriously haunting four-parter saw the likes of This Is England's Stephen Graham, Top Boy's Ashley Walters and A Thousand Blows star Erin Doherty grace our screens once again but it was TV newbie, Owen Cooper, who clearly stole the show with his debut performance as main character, 13-year-old Jamie Miller.

And, after seeing his audition tape, it's seems Netflix viewers know exactly why the show's creators, writers Graham and Jack Thorne along with director Philip Barantini, decided to cast him.

Netflix shared footage from Cooper's various auditions in which he sported much longer locks - a look worlds apart from his current shaved 'do.

The various clips were spliced with scenes from the actual series itself along with the caption: "@owencoooper's incredible audition for Adolescence [100 emoji]."

After catching light of the audition tape, fans couldn't wait to shower Cooper with praise, with one Instagram user writing: "The best part was he made it look so effortless on screen. Just brilliant!"

"His performance is outstanding," gushed a second. "As a mum of boys, it absolutely broke me. Not once did I consider him to be acting, such is the strength of his talent. Exceptional!"

While a third chimed in: "Absolutely mind blowing performance. I cannot wait to see what he does next."

A fourth echoed: "This kid is an amazing actor. To find out he has not been trained, that this was his first, and they did it all in one take… absolutely brilliant."

Someone else beamed: "Hats off to him I was honestly blown away by his talent especially in that really long scene. Outstanding!"

And a final Instagram user added: "Wow, what an incredible audition. It’s no wonder he got cast. Owen is going places!"

That's for sure!

Cooper is set to play the younger version of Jacob Elordi's character Heathcliff in the upcoming Wuthering Heights romance film which will hit cinemas in 2026.

Joining Cooper and Elordi in the movie, adapted by Saltburn director Emerald Fennell, from the 1847 novel by Emily Brontë of the same title, will be Margot Robbie, Alison Oliver, Shazad Latif and Hong Chau.

Adolescence is available to stream on Netflix now.
