Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States, has surprisingly detailed her feelings on Love Island USA during a new interview with Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson.
We’re currently deep in the eighth season of the American version of Love Island, hosted by Vanderpump Rules’ Ariana Madix, with OG cast members Aniya Harvey, whose parents are former NBA player Donnell Harvey and shoe designer Natischa Harvey; Bryce Alakai Dettloff; Zach Georgiou from Birmingham; Trinity Tatum; and Melanie Moreno still going strong.
We’ve already seen surprising age-gap relationship confessions, Sean Reifel being called out by his local mayor and many a meltdown.
And apparently Obama, 62, has opinions.

Last week (24 June), the mum-of-two, who served as the First Lady between January 2009 and January 2017, welcomed actress Brunson onto the IMO podcast she shares with her older brother, Craig Robson.

The live conversation took place during the opening of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, Illinois, and saw the trio discussing imposter syndrome and parenting.
It was during the latter conversation that Obama shared her thoughts on Love Island USA.
She claimed that her daughters, Sasha, 25, and Malia, 27, whom she shares with former President of the United States, Barack Obama, 64, initially got her hooked on the reality TV favourite.
"That's mother-daughter time, you know,” she confessed.
However, apparently, Sasha and Malia are ‘behind’ on the latest season.
"And I was like, 'Have you started the next season?' And they were like, 'No! We're busy!' You need to get some more free time!"

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time that Obama has gushed about Love Island.
In 2025, the attorney took to One Tree Hill actress Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast to say reality programmes were her favourite because she likes to use them to ‘turn off’.
"I am a Real Housewives person. I love the dating shows, you know. I don't agree with them all, but I love to watch.
She added that she only started watching Love Island with her children because she was ‘amused at their feedback’ and their commentary.

Her other favourite shows include: The White Lotus, Netflix’s Running Point and Nobody Wants This, and Apple TV’s Shrinking, starring Harrison Ford, and Ted Lasso, as per People Magazine.
"Barack and I, we sometimes argue over what can we watch jointly because he likes death and darkness,” she claimed. "I said, 'You know, you like the plots where everybody's sad and then they die.'”
In 2024, Obama worked as an executive producer on Netflix’s The Later Daters, a reality series with six baby boomers starring relationship expert Logan Ury.
According to reports, The Later Daters series two is currently in development, with casting notices being shared online.
