American actress Zoë Kravitz has spoken out regarding her high-profile split from her ex-fiancé Channing Tatum.

The pair went official with their relationship in 2021, and became engaged in 2023, before splitting earlier this year.

The two collaborated on Kravitz's directorial debut Blink Twice, in which Tatum played the role of Slater King, a bilionaire who invites attractive young women to his private island.

Following reports of the breakup, the two have remained fairly tight-lipped about their split.

Kravitz has finally made a comment of some kind, and it's full of praise.

For Variety's Actors on Actors series, Kravitz told The Batman director Matt Reeves why she decided to cast Tatum in her film.

She said that she wanted to 'weaponise his charisma'.

Kravitz explained: “Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King, and I don’t know where that came from.

“I knew that the character needed to be somebody who we think we trust, especially because you don’t believe Naomi [Ackie] (who played Frida) is getting on that plane if it’s someone who is immediately insidious."

She added: "He was doing such a good job, and as an actor, I'm like, ‘This is delicious stuff that he's never gotten a chance to do'.

"And also, he's doing this part because he's an ally. He wants to tell this story.”

Prior to the breakup, Tatum had gushed about his romance with Kravitz.

Tatum told People of the filming experience: "To get to create something with someone that you love is probably one of the most gratifying things other than having a kid with somebody I think."

He continued: "It's one of those ... you truly are creating something from nothing and it's just like creating a marriage or creating something where you're like, everything that we are is going into this thing and you want to make it with people that you love."

Kravitz added: "Yeah, we got to work together and go through hard things together and support each other, and it was beautiful."

The reason for the break up between Tatum and Kravitz remains unknown, but it's clear the two have a lot of love and respect for one another - so who knows, maybe they'll pull a Bennifer and rekindle the flame one day.

They're working together on an upcoming project, Alpha Gang, and according to a source, there's no bad blood.

The unnamed insider told People: "They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë's focus and passion."
