Zayn Malik makes rare comment on relationship with ex-fiancee Perrie Edwards

Zayn Malik makes rare comment on relationship with ex-fiancee Perrie Edwards

Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards both found fame on The X Factor before splitting in 2015

Zayn Malik has lifted the lid on his relationship with his ex Perrie Edwards.

The former One Direction star has opened up about his romance with Little Mix songstress in a new interview.

The pair came from similar beginnings in the showbiz industry, owing to the fact they both found worldwide fame on The X Factor.

They first met in 2011, went public with their relationship in 2012, and were engaged by 2013.

It seemed like the stars had aligned, and everyone's favourite 'ship' were in it for the long haul.

Then, in 2015, they had a shock split.

In a new interview with Nylon, Zayn gave a rare comment about their relationship, saying: "From 17 to 21, I was in a relationship.

"I was engaged and [planned to get] married and I didn’t know anything about anything at that point.

"I thought I did, because I was 21. I was legally allowed to do everything, but I didn’t know s**t.”

The 'Pillowtalk' singer also reflected upon his relationship history prior to his meteoric rise to stardom, saying he 'lived a very chill life in Bradford', adding: "I never really had a girlfriend.

"My parents were kind of old-school, so I never brought a girlfriend home or anything."

He adds: "When I got the chance to do that, I jumped straight in, two feet first, and was like, ‘I'm going to have a girlfriend, and she’s going to live with me. This makes me a grown man.’

“It’s probably wise to take your time before you fully invest in another human being as a lifelong partner."

Shortly after his break-up with Perrie, (which she claims he ended by text, but he denies), Zayn embarked on another high-profile relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid, which lasted six years and who he shares his daughter, Khai, 4, with.

Zayn said: "From 21 to 27, I was with Gi, and we had a kid, and I didn’t really take much time to get to know myself.”

Putting dating on the back seat for now, he is primarily focused on being a father to Khai, saying: "I only have my daughter 50% of the time. I would have her 90% if I could.

"We go see Disney on Ice or we go see the Nickelodeon theme park. Or we go to the beach. That’s how I get out.”

It seems Zayn is feeling very reflective recently as last week, he also opened up about his time in One Direction.

Zayn left the band in 2015 - shortly before he called off his relationship with Perrie.

He said in an interview on The Zach Sang Show: "We [the band members] resented each other to a certain degree because we were solo artists that were put in a band, and we should have never felt that way.

"It should have never been a competition. It should have always been a camaraderie, and we should have always been there for each other and had each other's backs.

"The one thing I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough.

"I feel like I just took things too seriously."
