Whoopi Goldberg had a pretty savage response when being asked to clarify a statement she made about Donald Trump during The View.
The 69-year-old American actress was handed a note by production while live on air on Monday (3 November), asking her to correct a comment she made earlier in the show - and it's safe to say she wasn't happy about it.
It followed a conversation about US presidents using an autopen to sign documents, in which Goldberg made a joke about Trump.

She and her co-stars had been discussing Trump’s appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes the previous night and Sunny Hostin pointed out how the Republican leader said that he didn’t know anything about Binance founder Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao’s pardon.
For those who aren't aware, Trump pardoned the cryptocurrency multi-billionaire last month, after he pleaded guilty to enabling money laundering in 2023, as per the BBC.
When asked why he pardoned Zhao, the POTUS simply responded: "Okay, are you ready? I don't know who he is."
Discussing this confusing moment on The View, Hostin said: "The Trump family has made about $1.8 billion, profited off of this government and he said that Joe Biden didn’t know who he was pardoning using an autopen. How come you don’t know who this guy is?"

Goldberg then chimed in with the joke: "Because he used an autopen!" suggesting Trump may not have known about the pardon.
An autopen is a mechanical device used for the replicated signing of a human signature.
However, it seems like producers were scrambling after the actress made the joke as they later passed her a note live on air which she read out loud.
Shocked, Goldberg said: "What the hell? What? We don't know if Trump used an autopen to pardon, it was a joke!"

"Yes, we don’t know whether Trump used an autopen to pardon," Hostin chimed in with.

"Oh, come on!" Goldberg said, before ripping the note to shreds and going into a rant about the whole ordeal.
She added: "Well, I’m sorry. The hardest thing about this job now is no one understands nuance.

"You know when you hear a joke, when somebody’s fooling around, when they’re not saying something specific. Especially on this show, I’m very specific when I’m… pointing stuff out.
"When I’m making jokes, you know when I’m making jokes! This is ridiculous."
People have rushed to social media to respond to the now-viral moment - and viewers have been left divided.

One person wrote on Twitter: "The issue is they don't speak about things like they are 'jokes'. They speak like they are 'facts' - which is to manipulate their viewers with misinformation."
While a second claimed: "If ABC didn’t check her a** she would have never said it was a joke!!"
Another added: "So I can say whatever I want as long as I say its a joke afterwards. Interesting strategy."
However, someone else argued: "I side with Whoopi on this one, give comedians some grace."
Tyla has contacted ABC for comment.
