Tobey Maguire officiates ex-wife's wedding to billionaire just weeks after finalising their divorce sparking debate
Tobey Maguire and his ex-wife Jennifer Meyer appear to have remained on good terms, after the Spider-Man star took on an unexpected role at her wedding to Geoffrey Ogunlesi.
Meyer, a jewellery designer, married Ogunlesi on Saturday (10 October) in a lavish ceremony at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii, with Maguire officiating the wedding.
Ogunlesi is the son of Nigerian billionaire lawyer and investment banker Adebayo Ogunlesi.
The star-studded guest list reportedly included Rachel Zoe, Courteney Cox, Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, as well as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos.

Maguire’s role in the ceremony has attracted attention given that his divorce from Meyer was finalised just weeks earlier, on 21 September. The former couple announced their separation in October 2016 after nine years of marriage. Meyer filed for divorce in 2020.
"After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple," the former couple said in a statement shared with PEOPLE in 2016. "As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship."
Meyer and Maguire are parents to 19-year-old Ruby Sweetheart, and son Otis Tobias, 17.
Maguire and Meyer met in early 2003 before getting married four years later in an intimate Hawaiian ceremony attended by close family and friends.
Meyer welcomed a baby daughter with Ogunlesi earlier this year. He is the founder and CEO of a music and entertainment management company. The newlyweds announced their engagement in 2024 and were first linked as a couple in 2023.
Reactions from fans have been mixed, with some observers claiming that having your ex-husband officiate your wedding is strange while others have said it’s refreshing to see.

However, in response to the negative comments, someone else suggested: “What a sad world you live in if you can’t imagine having a mature, supportive relationship with your ex!”
After a commenter called the ceremony ‘awkward’, another person declared: “I think they are aspirational. It takes a lot of love, compromise and maturity to get there.”
Similarly, another comment shared: “This is a heartwarming and inspiring story. Sometimes people fall out of romantic love, but they never stop caring for one another. It’s inspiring to see adults truly rise above and put their children first.
“Building that kind of healthy, supportive dynamic after a breakup takes real effort and maturity. they worked through the challenges, and it’s incredible to see them come out on the other side as a united family. Bravo to them.”
Meyer spoke about her close bond with Maguire during an appearance on The Inside Edit podcast in 2025, hosted by Maeve Reilly. She reflected on their friendship following their separation.
“I now have an ex-husband who is my best friend and would do anything for me, and I would do anything for him,” she said. “Anything in the world.”
Meyer praised her ex for his role in her life and as a father, describing him as 'the best dad, the best ex-husband, the best friend, the most generous,' while revealing that he had also developed a relationship with her new husband, Ogunlesi.
She also recalled how she and her children stayed with Maguire during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in early 2025, highlighting the supportive family dynamic they had maintained.
“It was the greatest,” she shared. “Every day I would walk in and I’d be like, ‘I’m so lucky,’ and then I’d come home at night and Tobey and Geoff and his best friend would be watching a movie on the couch. I’d be like ‘How? This is a dream.’ ”
