Tate McRae addresses MAGA backlash after collaborating with Morgan Wallen

Tate McRae has faced criticism following a collaboration with Morgan Wallen, and the star has now hit back at MAGA accusations.

The 'Sports Car' singer has been receiving comments online questioning her politics following the duet, as well as rumours of a relationship with Jack Hughes.

Morgan Wallen was at the centre of a huge controversy back in 2021, after footage emerged of him using a racial slur.

At the time, he told his fans not to defend him, saying: "I was wrong. It's on me, and I fully accept any penalties I'm facing", saying the footage showed him at 'hour 72 of 72 of a bender' according to NME.

He continued: “That’s not something I’m proud of…the natural thing to do is to just continue to apologise because you got caught, and that’s not what I wanted to do.”

However, Wallen has not publicly spoken out in support of Donald Trump.

McRae is also rumoured to be dating Jack Hughes, who plays for NHL team The Devils and for the USA team.

He was present when they won the Winter Olympics this year, and went viral after they met with President Donald Trump after their win, with many of the team recorded laughing at President Donald Trump's comments where he said he would be impeached if he didn’t invite the women’s team to the White House too.

McRae has now responded to the comments, insisting she lets her actions do the talking: "I like to say my piece through organisations I support and the environment that I have on tour."

She continued: "I think it’s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I’m putting my energy towards.”

The singer has previously publicly supported an LGBTQ+ suicide prevention organisation called The Trevor Project, as well as donating part of the proceeds generated by her merchandise sales to the Global Fund for Women.

Following the criticism after Trump's comments, Hughes told the Daily Mail: “Everything is so political. We’re athletes. We’re so proud to represent the U.S. and we get the chance to go to the White House, meet the president. You know, we’re proud to be Americans.”

He added: “No matter what your views are, we’re super excited to go.”

Elsewhere in her interview with Variety, McRae opened up about the decision to keep her relationships to herself: “I try to keep my relationships as sacred and private as possible."

“I love the people in my life. They love me. You just try to keep that circle as positive and supportive as possible. And the outside noise, I can’t do anything about that," she added.

“Focusing my energy on something that I can’t control, it just puts me in a bad mood.”
