Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello confirm they're divorcing after seven years of marriage

The couple married in 2015 after they first met almost a decade ago

Modern Family star Sofía Vergara and her husband Joe Manganiello have confirmed their decision to divorce after seven years of marriage.

The couple announced the news in a statement shared this week, almost a decade after they first met through Vergara's former co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in 2014.

Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb at the time, but she began dating Manganiello after announcing her split from Loeb.

The pair got engaged on Christmas Eve 2014, and tied the knot the following November in front of 350 guests in Palm Beach, Florida.

The True Blood star gushed over their relationship a few years later while speaking with Cigar Aficionado, saying: "Coming to grips with the idea that someone who is not related to you could possibly love you that much. She was it for me."

Recently, Vergara was spotted celebrating her 51st birthday with friends in Italy, with some eagle-eyed fans noticing that she wasn't wearing her wedding ring during the events.

In their statement to Page Six this week, the couple announced their decision to go their separate ways.

“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Fans had previously begun to express concerns about the pair's relationship after seeing Manganiello's birthday post to his wife, which simply read 'Happy Birthday' in Spanish: "!!Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!"

After seeing the post, one concerned fan wrote: “Am I the only one who doesn’t like the way it sounds? ‘Sofía’ …. not even ‘My love, My beloved wife'.”

Following the news of Vergara and Manganiello's divorce, sources close to the couple claimed to Mail Online that the pair had grown apart over the years.

While Manganiello is a 'big kid' who 'chases fun', Vergara is 'more concerned with the finer things in life', they claimed.

"Bit by bit, they stopped wanting to be together and stopped hanging out because something so little would often trigger an attitude that would bug them, just their attitudes on everything were completely different and something like that is extremely draining for a relationship," the source continued.

"They got to the point where it would be a good day and one thing would be said or done and they would just get upset with each other."

Tyla has contacted representatives for Vergara and Manganiello for comment.
