When celebrity couples call off their relationships, fans can almost always expect some sort of highly-publicised fall out.
Whether it's them refusing to work on the same movie ever again, writing slanderous songs about one another (cough, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, we're looking at you...) or launching an intense custody battle over their offspring, break-ups in the spotlight can't be easy.
That said, however, former flames Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon are proving how easy it can be to remain on good terms with a long-term ex - no matter how famous you are.
This comes after Crash actor Ryan, 49, shared a rather eyebrow-raising throwback snap on his Instagram of him and ex Reese, 48.

For those who need a refresher on the former couple's once-great love story, the duo first came face-to-face at Reece's 21st birthday party, after which they appeared side-by-side in the hit teen drama Cruel Intentions.
In the years that followed, the loved-up pair announced not only that they were expecting their first child together, but that they'd gotten engaged, and Ryan and Reese officially tied the knot in 1999 when she was several months pregnant.
They went on to welcome their now 24-year-old daughter, Ava, as well as their 20-year-old son, Deacon.
In 2006, however, Ryan and Reese sadly released a statement announcing their plans to part ways, citing irreconcilable differences. They went on to share joint custody of their two children.
Reese later went on to wed and welcome a child with talent agent Jim Toth, whom she also divorced last year after 11 years of marriage.
However, taking to Instagram yesterday (27 May), the I Know What You Did Last Summer actor - who has since dated and welcomed a child with Pitch Perfect star Alexis Knapp - shocked his followers by sharing a throwback snap of he and Reese in their heyday.
In the shot - which comes from the 2001 premiere of Legally Blonde - Reese can be seen sporting a black and white striped dress and chic bob haircut, while Ryan dons a striped vest and questionable mohawk.
"We were hot and drenched in late 90's angst @reesewitherspoon," Ryan captioned his somewhat bizarre post. "Such a cooler time than today."
This isn't the first time that Ryan has referenced his marriage to Reese in public, after a 2015 interview with Larry King saw him opening up on the reason behind their split.
"I think more of the problem was age, you know, when we got together so young," he admitted. "I think it can create issues - two people in this industry - because there's so much noise that goes around with it."
