Richard Madeley has revealed the tragic reason why he eats the same exact food every single day.

The 68-year-old presenter, best known for his roles hosting ITV's This Morning and Channel 4's chat Richard & Judy, has unfortunately suffered a lot of personal loss in his life following the tragic deaths of his grandfather, father and uncle.

His three family members all died from heart attacks, which has understandably made Madeley conscious about his 'health', including his diet and other lifestyle factors.

In order to maintain good fitness and health, Madeley - an 'inveterate walker' - shared that he makes an active effort to walk up to 10,000 steps a day and also relies on one food in particular, which helps to manage his cholesterol levels.

"My blood pressure is very good and my cholesterol level is low." he explained on The Dr Hilary Show podcast before revealing what supermarket-bought item he swears by was.

"I take a little supermarket bought statin everyday, a little yoghurt, which does help lower cholesterol [and] I have regular health checks," he said.

Elsewhere, Madeley admitted he was 'very lucky' that he's generally 'always been in very good health'.

He continued: "I think what gave my grandfather, uncle and father their heart attacks, and the one that killed my father, as I said they were heavy smokers.

"My dad, at one stage, was on two packs a day and he died at 49."

Looking back on his health journey, Madeley explained it was broadcaster John Diamond's 2001 death which made him giving up smoking for good.

Madeley actually interviewed Diamond on This Morning just a matter of days before his passing from throat and mouth cancer.

"I remember after that interview, that was the day, I went back to my dressing room on This Morning and I reached up on to the top of the cupboard and brought [down] my 10 pack of Benson and Hedges, there was eight in there, and I screwed them all up and flushed them down the loo," he said.

"Not for the first time in my life, but with the absolute conviction that was not going to go like that, I'm not going to have that kind of death and I haven't smoked since."
