Paul Mescal responds to viral ‘one night stand’ allegations as he reveals mum’s heartbreaking reaction

Paul Mescal has responded to the viral ‘one night stand’ allegations as he revealed his mum’s heartbreaking reaction.

Now, in case you're not up to date with the ridiculous rumour mill, there were a bunch of rumours which circulated last winter about a bizarre habit Mescal allegedly had when it came to one-night stands.

Fuelled by TikTok, as most speculation is, the Normal People star was alleged to take his dates on a walk in the park, point to something like a bird or a tree, only to take off and leg it in the other direction.

Bizarre, we know.

Recalling the moment the rumours started circulating, the Aftersun actor told GQ in an interview published today (15 October) that he and his family found the entire ordeal hilarious.

"We were looking at the videos and we were p*ssing ourselves at it."

Confirming the rumours were 'categorically untrue', he continued: "And we were laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing…"

However, it wasn't all a laughing matter.

"The one thing that upset me was that I was in the kitchen, I remember my mum looking at the videos and she was getting upset. Isn’t that devastating?" he shared.

Mescal explained: "I was like, Oh, it’s funny to us—my brother, me, my sister—because we know that this is the way the internet works. It’s hilarious. If it was true, it’d be f*cking bad, but as a rumour, it’s funny.

"Then I was like, Oh, if you’re a mother, her impulse is to come out and be like, 'He wouldn’t do this'."

Talking of Mescal and dating, the award-winning 28-year-old previously opened up about his 'ultimate ick' which everyone is apparently guilty of.

The actor recently sat down with Tyla’s parent company LADbible to chat about everything, from personalised number plates to roast potatoes, alongside All Of Us Strangers co-star Andrew Scott, as part of our 'Agree to Disagree' series.

One question saw the duo posed with the idea of whether or not ‘someone running upstairs on all fours’ would give them the ick - a topic they had a surprising amount to say on.

Initially, Mescal said: “Strongly disagree, I think it’s funny!”

However, Scott then probed a little further.

“Yeah, but are they conscious of it?” he asked.

“Are they doing it to make you laugh?”

He and Mescal then agreed it was more so if someone was just ‘quickly’ running upstairs like a bit of a gremlin - with Scott's impression leaving his fellow actor in stitches.

“That’s the ick!” Mescal said, continuing: “Do you know what would give even more of an ick, because I think we all do it, is if you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m just gonna go down to turn off the lights’.

“And they’re being all chill, and then you hear them accelerate up the stairs because they’re scared.

“Because I think we all do it, but I think if I was trying to impress someone, I’d smoothly walk up the stairs.”

As for someone sliding downstairs on their bum? That’s even worse, according to Mescal.

“That gives me more of the ick, because it’s not as funny, it’s just a bit weird... It’s less of a big gesture, with your bum!” he said, joking that you’d just end up breaking your coccyx.
