Paloma Faith admits having children was why she and ex-husband Leyman Lahcine split as she addresses separation

Paloma Faith admits that her relationship with her now ex-husband Leyman Lahcine 'ended' because they had children.

Fans of the 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' musician were blind-sided by the heartbreaking news last year, after Paloma, 42, confirmed that she had split from her husband in 2022 after nine years together.

Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Paloma described the breakup as 'devastating' and that it was the 'worst breakup' she'd ever had.

"It's about the worst breakup I've ever had, because it's the longest relationship I've ever had, and we obviously had two kids together, so it's the worst thing that's ever happened to me in my life."

Referencing her then-upcoming album, 'The Glorification of Sadness', she said she couldn't 'ignore' her breakup during the creative process, saying: "I couldn't ignore it when I was writing, but also the most private I feel about it because there's kids involved, so it's weird but I'm hoping the songs speak for themselves."

Paloma also addressed the split on an episode of This Morning in January, saying: "'I feel a real sense of responsibility, stages of grief are still present and even two years on I still feel this guilt that I have failed my children.

"It's definitely biggest failure and my only regret and I have never really been someone who regretted anything."

This week, however, it is the two daughters that she and Leyman share that Paloma claims is the reason for the breakdown of their relationship.

The singer opened up on what prompted her split.

Speaking to The Independent, Paloma said their relationship began to suffer when she welcomed the first of their two children.

"You either grow together, adapting to one another like expandable foam and filling the gaps where it’s empty – or one person grows and the other stays the same," she explained.

Describing motherhood as a 'massively life-changing experience', she went on: "I needed more than nothing – and the expandable foam just wasn’t there.'

"Our relationship ended because we have those children. And I think that was worth it."

This isn't the first time that the St Trinian's star has surprised her followers by making a refreshingly honest about why he love life came to blows.

Last month, Paloma told The Times that during their marriage, a 'resentment' from her husband had begun building up since they became parents.

She said: "Men like to be put first and resentment builds."

"I have a really good relationship with the kids’ dad so sometimes it’s like, 'What are we doing? Why are we not together?'," she continued to say.

"But the key to the success of our relationship now is absence of expectation. Expectation leads to disappointment."

The star said that she had been on a few dates but 'what people want from a relationship I’m not able to give at this point'.

Adding: "Men struggle to be put second."
