Miley Cyrus fans are going wild after the star hinted at a new era, as she’s seemingly made the bold decision to drop her surname professionally.
The 33-year-old ‘Flowers’ hitmaker teased that she’s working on something new on Monday (31 August) by taking to social media to share a mysterious red and black photo, showing a close-up of her eye.
She also quietly changed her website, redirecting visitors from her usual website, mileycyrus.com, to a brand new domain, mileyofficial.com, with the name ‘MILEY’ in bold letters once you click through, alongside another new black and red close-up.
However, it’s all been very mysterious so far, and we’ve heard nothing official on a name change yet from Miley herself, so it could simply be a one-off rebrand for her album, and she may continue to use Miley Cyrus afterwards.

Either way, fans have been going crazy over the prospect of a new era, and potentially a new album.

One Instagram user wrote: Just Miley … because she’s that iconic,” while a second added: “MILEY IS COMING”.
A third questioned: “New era???” and a fourth over on X chimed in with: “Miley dropping her last name professionally would make so much sense bc she’s literally the only Miley so it’s not like she needs the distinction.”
A fifth reasoned: “idk how i feel about miley leaving the cyrus behind” and a sixth added: “I don't approve, it's MILEY CYRUS!! Miley, without Cyrus, is incomplete.”
If she did go by Miley alone, she’d join the legendary line-up of stars who are famous enough to do so, such as Adele, Rihanna, and Beyoncé.
Miley last released music on September 19, 2025, when she dropped the deluxe edition of her visual album Something Beautiful.

Her surname, of course, comes from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, with whom she’s had a rocky relationship over the years.
While they’re now on good terms, there was a period of time when they weren’t speaking, following his divorce from her mother Tish in April 2022 after nearly 30 years of marriage.
However, in a May 2025 interview with The New York Times, Miley confirmed that thankfully, the pair were no longer estranged.
She told the publication, "I think timing is everything. As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents - because my mom’s really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard.
"And so I think I took on some of my mom’s hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain."
This also isn’t the first time Miley has changed her name; as hardcore fans will know, she wasn’t actually born as Miley Cyrus, but Destiny Hope.
Tish previously explained on the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLtfq_zXLSYpodcast: Billy Ray came up with that. She always smiled when she was little, so we would call her smiley Miley, and it just stuck."
In 2008, she legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus - but for her dad, she’ll always be Destiny Hope.
He previously told US Weekly: “She's a giver. She believes that we're all put here for a reason, and that's to give back to our fellow man.
"I'm real proud of her. That's why we named her Destiny Hope. Destiny Hope Cyrus is her name – at least it used to be.
"But no matter what you call her, she still is Destiny Hope. She is a ray of sunshine. She is a special human being. She's got a great heart."
