Lindsay Lohan discovered she had a ‘secret’ sister following a public paternity dispute involving her father.

The actor, who rose to fame as a child star before becoming one of the most recognisable names of the 2000s, has had much of her personal life documented in the public eye.

Lohan became a household name thanks to films including The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Mean Girls.

Still, whilst her career made her a global star, her family life has also repeatedly attracted attention over the years. The actor is one of four children born to Michael and Dina Lohan, who were married from 1985 until 2005.

However, it later emerged that Lindsay had another half-sibling after Michael was involved in a televised DNA test.

As explained by The Sun, the revelation came in 2012, when Michael appeared on The Trisha Goddard Show amid claims he was the father of Ashley Horn, who was 17 at the time.

Michael had previously denied he was Ashley’s father, but the DNA test shown on the programme proved that he was. The result meant Ashley was confirmed as Lindsay’s half-sister.

During the appearance, Ashley also made comments about Lindsay which later drew attention.

Ashley said she was ‘hotter than Lindsay’ and, alluding to Lindsay’s substance abuse issues, added: “I like being a responsible person.”

She later apologised to the Mean Girls star for ‘letting the media use me to drag you into this.’

The discovery came during a period when Lindsay’s life was already under intense scrutiny. After finding celebrity-level fame at a young age, the actor became one of the most heavily followed celebrities of her generation, with her personal life frequently making headlines alongside her film work.

In the years since, Lindsay has taken a step back from that level of attention. She moved to Dubai in 2014 and has since spoken about the privacy she has found living away from Hollywood.

The actor married financier Bader Shammas in 2022, and the couple welcomed their son Luai in 2023.

Speaking previously about life in Dubai, Lindsay said: “It’s just far away from Hollywood, and I live a very normal life.”

She also explained how different privacy laws are there, saying: “No, it’s not legal. You can’t even take a picture of someone else if you’re at a restaurant. You have to ask the person, which is a big difference from here.”

Lindsay added: “Yeah, privacy is key.”

Looking back on the public attention she faced, the actor told Paper magazine in 2018: “Behind the scenes, I do what I can to be the best version of me, which never gets mentioned.”

She added: “I am also human. I make mistakes. That’s all that seems to get reported.”
