One of Hollywood's most renowned plastic surgeons has spoken out following criticism Jim Carrey recently received for his 'unrecognisable' new look.
Dr Terry Dubrow, a celebrity practitioner, made an appearance on Tori Spelling's misSpelling podcast on Monday (10 Mar), where he was asked his verdict on the controversial matter.
It came after Carrey, 64, was criticised for his attendance at the Cesar Film Awards in Paris last month, where he received a d'honneur accolade in recognition of his contribution to the entertainment industry.
Taking to the stage to deliver his acceptance speech (entirely in French with a thick American accent), onlookers were immediately taken aback by his considerably longer new hairstyle.

The Mask actor's appearance subsequently sparked an outlandish online conspiracy theory that he'd been 'swapped out' ahead of the ceremony, with some part-takers even questioning whether or not his eye colour had changed since his earliest days in the industry, from brown to green.

One theorist asked at the time: "Is that actually him?". Another confessed: "I don’t know what it is, but he looks different."
Carrey later responded to the criticism, with his agent, Marleah Leslie, telling Page Six that no body doubles had been used.
"Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award," she confirmed.
In the weeks since the movie star's comments, A-list surgeon Dubrow has spoken in his defence, slamming appearance-based criticism as 'mean'.
"All they want to do is talk about the way poor Jim Carrey looks," he told Spelling of the collection of conspiracists.
"It’s like, what do you say when you’re confronted with that stuff? It’s so mean, right?"
The Botched star went on to add that he'd been ceaselessly hounded over Carrey's public appearance - the first he'd made since the November prior - for several weeks now.

Despite confessing that Carrey does look 'different' compared to his earliest days on the film scene, Dubrow went on to suggest that this is simply because his fans are 'used to seeing' him looking 'young'.
"I still think he looks great," the doctor went on.
Dubrow also admitted he's not yet sure whether Carrey made the decision to go under the knife ahead of the awards - another dubious aspect of the viral theory that hinged on swelling allegations. If he did, the surgeon added, it could 'take a long time to go down'.
Either way, Dubrow insisted, whether or not Carrey has 'had work done' is no one's business except his, and such speculation shouldn't detract from his colossal on-screen success.
"He’s kind of our national comedic treasure," he noted. "Can’t we be a little more kind?

"Every plastic surgeon in the world is going online and talking about, ‘There’s less skin in his upper eyelids and his brows are higher,’ and they’re, like, dissecting him with a microscope, which is so unfair, I think, and uncool."
Dubrow's comments came after Gregory Caulier, the César Awards' lead delegate, slammed the theory that Carrey had been cloned.
"Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer," he told Variety. "From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions.
"He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words."
Adding that the star had attended the soiree with 'his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members', Caulier continued.

"His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.
"For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance."
