Jason Momoa has updated worried fans following some of the worst flooding to hit Hawaii in over 20 years.

The Game Of Thrones star shared an emotional message to his supporters online after he and his family were forced to flee.

Momoa, 46, has been with his family near the O'ahu North Shore in the region when severe flash flooding struck, causing widespread power outages and severe damage.

Many homes and roads were hit, and residents were advised to evacuate following the damage caused by rare back-to-back violent storms amid fears it could worsen.

Confirming that his loved ones are all safe, according to TMZ, Momoa said: "I got my family with me. We got out of the North Shore; a lot of people have been asking."

He continued: "Our power went off, we're safe for now, but there's a lot of people who weren't, so we’re sending all our love."

The actor added: "North Shore is pretty gnarly right now. So just love and hopefully everyone's safe and getting out, and we'll get together and figure out how we help everyone."

Evacuation noticed have now been lifted, but a flood watch is still in place for most of the region.

Catastrophic flash floods were caused by an unprecedented amount of rainfall thanks to non-stop storms.

Rivers of water damaged homes and roads in the area and threatened to burst a dam, triggering the emergency evacuation.

Residents received a text message which read: "Residents in the Waialua area are strongly urged to LEAVE NOW. The remaining access road out of Waialua is at high risk of failure if rainfall continues."

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency reassured residents that the 120-year-old dam had not failed, but warned it was 'at imminent risk of failure.'

They reported that the water levels behind the dam went from 79ft to 84ft - a mere 6ft under what it can hold back.

They also stated it was the worst flooding they have seen in 20 years, thanks to what are called 'kona storms'. Usually there are one or two kona storms between November and March.

However, two formed within the same week, which is a very rare event.

Momoa and his family have been offering to help, teaming up with a local restaurant to distribute meals, before the evacuation order was given.

He and his girlfriend, Adria Arjona, were seen working at the food outlet.

He wrote in a caption: "These past weeks have been heavy. The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across O'ahu have affected so many of our people, especially those already facing hardship."

"We spent time on the west side, just trying to show love, bring some food, and remind our community that we see you, we stand with you, and you’re not alone," he continued.

"That’s what aloha is. It’s showing up for each other when it matters most.

He has also pleaded with fans to help 'in any way, no matter how big or small' if they can.

The actor stressed it doesn't have to be monetary help, saying it can be something as simple as being sure to 'check in on your neighbours.'

More than 5,500 people have been impacted by the floods and the evacuation orders, but no deaths have been reported.
