James Cameron has revealed his plans to move from the US to New Zealand and the reason why is pretty brutal.

The legendary filmmaker behind the likes of Titanic and Avatar moved from Canada to California in the early 1970s so he could pursue a career in the film industry.

But, while the 70-year-old is still making movies - a third instalment to the Avatar franchise is currently in the works - he is choosing to leave the US behind, as his home at least, saying he's been 'working towards' moving the New Zealand for some time.

The reason why? Donald Trump.

Speaking in a YouTube video by Stuff, he explained that he is 'sickened' by the US President, who is currently serving his second term in office.

The Alien director said: "I see a turn away from everything decent. America doesn’t stand for anything if it doesn’t stand for what it has historically stood for.

"[America] becomes a hollow idea, and I think they’re hollowing it out as fast as they can for their own benefit."

He continued: "I don’t know if I feel any safer [in New Zealand], but I certainly feel like I don’t have to read about it on the front page every single day. And it’s just sickening.

"There’s something nice about the New Zealand outlets – at least they’ll put it on page three. I just don’t want to see that guy’s face anymore on the front page of the paper."

It's not the first time Cameron has been critical of the controversial politician, calling him a 'madman' prior to his election in 2016.

And a year later, during Trump's first term in office, he told The Daily Beast: "It’s basically the upside-down world right now, and the kind of dialogue coming out of these guys sounds like George Orwell."

Speaking about the President's climate change policies, he said: "Years ago, we sort of spotted the iceberg ahead of us and we called out the order to turn, and we’ve been slowly, slowly, slowly trying to turn this big-ass ship to not hit the iceberg.

"[But] then Trump grabbed the tiller and just plunged it right back at the centre of the iceberg."

And the director isn't the only person choosing to abandon the US because of him, with Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi, Sophie Turner and Saoirse Ronan also moving to the UK after his reelection.

Meanwhile, Cher vows to leave after ‘getting an ulcer’ the last time Trump was President.
